Just Purchased Used Eldorado...

got it to use as my backup on my England trip. I'm beginning to think it will be the lead instead of the backup.
Anyone got any tips, quirks, likes, dislikes with the Eldorado?
Thanks, Randy.

I have an Eldorado that I bought used several years ago. I am very impressed with its capabilities, but sometimes it is finicky when ground balancing. If you have problems getting a steady hum on the threshold setting, turn up the threshold a bit and/or change the frequency setting. Also make sure you are not close to any possible electrical interference. MOST IMPORTANT - before trying to ground balance, sweep the area in dis. mode and make sure you are not trying to balance over a target. If you are it will give you fits trying to get it right. The Eldorado theoretically functions best when the balance is a tad bit positive. (gets louder as the coil goes down.)
Hope this helps - happy hunting

The Eldo. is a very good detector, shoud do very well in England.

A few months and I too am sold on this machine. I took it to the parks, old home sites, and will take it to ghost towns in a few months. I have been supprised at the performance of this machine.

Same here, just got mine this week. First time out for a testing got me 3 wheats, an old suspender clasp (brass), part of an old very small lock. I find hunting in all metal and flicking to disc sure does the job. G'luck to all, especially you "Eldorado Junkies". Ron, KYCol

Been detecting since 1978 with an old White's. Bought an Eldorado in March 2004 and am very pleased with what I have so far. The ground balance is a bit tricky, lift the coil about knee height keeping level with the ground. Adjust the threshold to your liking and then lower to ground level. Adjust the ground balance as instructed. + if you get an decrease in volume and - if you get an increase in volume. If volume the same, do not adjust. I will stop while detecting and adjust the ground balance once or twice just to be safe. The only problem I have with the Eldorado is the fact that I tend to move the dials while detecting because the dials are sittng where my hands are when I stop to dig a target and then pick up the unit to continue. I have to make sure I check the dial positions after I dig a target, but that may be just me and how I handle the unit. Am impressed and will get a used Tiger or Sand Shark next.

to keep the dials where you set them. I have not had time to do this yet. I was told to get 1/4 inch. Would appreciate opinions and or advice.

Have done the "O"ring fix on the threshold knob on 2 Siver Sabr umax and on the Eldorado. It works, holds the adjustments quite well and is an inexpensive and easy fix. Dig until you drop.
