Does this coil give the same response as the stock coil? Are the tones the same? Depth the same? I know I should get better separation becasue it is smaller, but if it was the same size as the stock coil would there be any difference between them?

Andrus I have an X8 for my Explorer and I use it probably 90% of the time. I cant tell any difference in the tones. As far as depth the stock coil is deeper without a doubt. The real plus for the X8 is the weight, its noticeably lighter than the stock coil and provides very good depth and also seperates targets better than tha stock coil. After you use it for a while you may git hooked on it like I did.

Andrus;
I went the other direction with an x-12 The cursor and sound are the same as the stock coil.
It is lighter than the stock coil and the balance is better which makes it feel even lighter. The center beam of the coil is narrower so I can pinpoint even better than the stock coil. You can see by my last post on the explorer forum,(weekend at school) this weekend got an awesome number of coins out of a school yard. Got a gold plated ring at 10-12" deep the signal was in the quarter range sharp and solid. If you can't tell i'm very impressed with the sunray coil.

You Said!
As far as depth the stock coil is deeper without a doubt.
So your saying the stock coil goes deeper than the SunRay X-8??
Thanks Mike

Yes from the testing I have done in my test garden the stock coil is deeper than the X8. I have a dime buried at a measured 9" the stock coil will hit on the dime with a good signal and proper ID, the X8 will not hit on te dime with any regularity, and most of the time it wont. HH

For the info =). What state do you live in and what kinda soil conditions do you have?

I live in the central part of N.C. The soil conditions here are heavily mineralized. The Explorer has better depth than any other detector I have used in these soil conditions. HH

Miike I have tried the XLT, DFX, CZ 7a Pro, GTI 1500, X2, CZ6a, and Soverign. The only detector that I have used that will do bettter on depth than the Explorer is the X5, and there is a noticable difference. HH
