Hi Y'all. Just ordered an X-terra 505 today, hope to have it next week to start playing with. I'm a first time detectorist, but i've been interested in the hobby for a long time and have done quite a bit of research. I live in an area that is rich in civil war and Abe Lincoln history as well as some native indian tribes, so i'm hopeful to find some things from that era. I have permission from some of hte farmers to go through thier fields.

We got about 5 inches of snow on the ground here so I'm assuming that you probably don't do too good in snow unless you can get down to the ground level?

Can't wait to get started

Welcome to the forum . The 505 is a good machine you will like it, just takes some time to learn good. Mark has one and does real well. Check out the faq faq page at top of this forum it has alot of good information. Stick around and post often, looking forward to seeing your pictures of your finds.

Welcome to the site! Very glad you are here! The 505 is a very nice MD. I wish you the best of luck with it, Beale.

Welcome aboard. It ain't the snow that slows me down. It'll hunt in the snow. It's that darn frozen ground below it! :rage: Come-on spring thaw! :detecting: HH Randy

Thanks Folks, I think i'm really going to like this hobby. I've been thinking about it for a while and doing some research. I'm actually going to start in my basement first. We just bought this house last summer and it's an old house that was built over where a log cabin from the late 1800's was located. I've already found some neat stuff in the basement like an old horseshoe and some pieces of china, one of which had a date of 1875 stamped on it.
