Just picked up a used Safari for my son

Well-known member
Got me a used Safari today for a great price. With the Pro Coil , it hit all my test targets (including my deep silver quarter that only my CZ's with the 10.5 inch coil and my E-Trac with the Pro Coil can hit). I can see the recovery speed is a bit slower than my E-Trac, but the main goal of this beast is for salt water wet sanding.

Low and Slow is what I wanted it for, and I think this unit will do very well in that environment.

Will also be taking it out to some older parks with the Sunray X-8 and X-5 coils to see what it can sniff out.

Lot simpler to set up for optimal performance than the E-Trac, thats for sure. Mainly got it so my son can hunt the wet sand with me and not dig too much iron. If it gets a bit wet or beat up a bit, that's ok for the price I paid for it. Just as long as he doesn't dunk it !!! Wanted tone ID and some form of visual ID for him to keep him interested. At 14, hunting the dry sand with his single frequency unit wasn't cutting it when he sees dad and friends digging good targets in the wet sand. Last time out he got a bit frustrated so I searched for a good multi frequency unit that he can use and found the Safari.

Seems like a really nice unit and can't wait for him to get out there and use it ( and me too !).

I love my safari. I bought my son an Ace 350 but if he shows interest, the safari will be his. In clean ground the safari will hold its own against the Etrac, but I prefer my Etrac in trashy parks. Never beach hunted with my Safari but I hear they work great on the beach. Your son will love it. Easy to learn too. With your Etrac experience, you know all you need to know to get your son finding goodies right away. They are silver hounds.

Congrats, your son should be real pleased with how well it does in the wet sand compared the VLF MDer, mine works real good on the beach.

The Safari is great in the wet salt sand -- reminds me of that old submarine movie with Clark Gable, "Run Silent Run Deep".

Make sure you use manual sensitivity for maximum depth. I could usually run at 18 or 19.

Rover, your son will not be disappointed with the Safari.
Psyvad, I live down the shore and when I do hunt the beach, dry or wet, it's in auto sensitivity ..On rare EMI interference, then I'll switch to manual sensitivity as you suggested.

What a great Dad you are. I wish I could get my sons into it.
