Just picked up a mint original Eldorado

Today I bought a mint condition original Eldorado, it came with a 4", 7", and a 8.5" wide scan coil, original manual, and nice carring bag. The detector has a dark brown metal case and takes 8 AA batteries, I am not sure how old it is, but it looks like it is brand new and it works great.

Can anybody on the forum tell me anything about the older Eldorados.

I can tell you it's one of the best relic machines I and my hunting partners have ever used. Wish I still had mine. If you ever want to trade it in or sell it, please let me know.

Hi Chuck

I noticed from reading some of your post on the forum, that you used one of the original Eldorado's. I huned an old school yard this morning and I used the Super Tuning trick and I could not believe the difference. I dug a pencil eraser cap that was 4" deep, and a penny at 6" that was lodged under some tree roots, the Eldo would bark loud and clear everytime the coil went over the penny, I had to use a big flat tipped screw driver and earn my money.

I am going to keep it for a while, but if I decide to sell it, or trade it I will shoot you an e-mail. This one is in beautiful condition and it is earning my respect.

Hi Mikel

The Super Tune trick is used on the original Tesoro Eldorado and on some other Tesoro detectors. How it works on the old Eldorado, is first you perform a ground balance in the ALL METAL mode per the instructions in the manual, then you switch to the DISC mode and adjust the THRESHOLD knob clock wise, as you turn the threshold knob clock wise, deeper targets will become louder.

To give you an expample, the pencil eraser cap that I found today at 4" deep would sound like static, with the threshold knob set at the position it would be in after performing a ground balance in the all metal mode, then switching to the disc mode. Once you are in the disc mode, if you turn the threshold knob all the way clockwise, the eraser cap sounds like it is laying on top of the ground, and a coin at 4" deep will blow your headphones off. To get an idea of how deep your target is, you need to reduce the threshold by turning it counter clockwise, if when you decrease the threshold the target sound gets weaker, then you know the target is deep in the ground, but if you decrease the threshold knob and the sound stays the same, then the target is either on the surface or close to it.

The Super Tune will only work with my Eldorado in the discriminat mode, as far as I know it has no effect on discriminating targets, that is still effected by the DISC knob. Hope this helps.
