Just ordered the GT......

Just get Rons screen, if you want. But its tones reliably tell you whats what. And so forth. Its a good by, despite being discontinued. Still learning mine. gl with yours, I am sure it will treat you well.

I got my GT the last week of Dec and it is a simple to operate machine. The tricky part for me was seperating the tones with my bad hearing. I got Rons meter a month ago and I highly recomend getting one.
My only gripe is this thing really does go deep and sometimes I don't like digging in parks with people around wondering if I'm in the landscaping business, all kidding aside. I will mostly use my exterra at the parks and the GT at the lake beaches and the ocean beach when I can get there. I spent many hours going way back through all the old posts which is a big help...don't be skeeeered, Dig It!

John the Sov GT is very easy to learn to operate in time you will learn the sounds and yes highly recommend a meter Rons is the best , here is a video by 53 Silver on the settings of the GT and a good hunt to learn the machine Good luck with yours and always ask here  Jim

Give the Sovereign a little time in the field to learn. The more you use this detector the more the performance will be appreciated. For in land park hunting I never use all metal to pinpoint the S-1 probe is used a great accessory. The stock 10 inch Tornado is a great coil, but the smaller Tornado 800 coil is better to learn the Sovereign.I always listen for climbing tones for deep targets a 180 meter will help with this and add depth by using the wiggle.Dig most targets for a couple of days to learn the ID tones without a meter. Most meter users will get to the point of cherry picking any number in the 140's and 170''s, and unusual numbers. The Sovereign is the best nickel and gold jewelry detector I have ever used.I have ID ed seated dimes at over a foot easy by using the wiggle.LOL don't worry about buyer's remorse that will disappear after a couple of weeks in the field.Good Luck and Welcome HH Ron

I highly recommend you get one of Ron's meters. It has helped me tremendously in learning what the machine is telling me. My hearing is not very good. Lost most all the high freqs and some loss in the rest of the hearing range. Even with my bad hearing the meter has helped me to be pretty certain of what is under the coil and now i just use the meter to verify my thinking. Until I purchased Ron's meter I was extremely frustrated trying to understand the machine and in fact was beginning to wish I had purchased something different. That is definitely no longer the case. xxxxx's on Ron's meter. Give the GT an honest chance...You will never regret it!

I think I've got one friend ready to drink the Sovereign kool aid. He's owned just about all the heavy hitters and some others over the years and is in between machines at the moment. He started talking about going back to a certain brand that he'd owned before for a short while and sold because it wasn't up to the snuff of other machines he's owned for what he was wanting to do. I said "You forget about all the complaints you had with that thing, only owning it a short while before selling it off, and now you are going to go back for round two?" We've both been down that road before with machines.

He thought about it and figured that might not be a wise idea, so he's thinking about getting a Sovereign of some prior model or the latest GT perhaps and "sample that wine", so to speak. He mentioned picking up a 12x10 from Kellyco right away just in case they don't have them when he gets around to picking up a Sovereign, with the thought that if they are out of stock again down the road and for some reason he doesn't pick up a Sovereign, he should be able to sell the 12x10 having never been used for about the same price since they are so rare to find in the used market because of people holding onto them.

If and when he does pick up a Sovereign, he's planning on getting Ron's meter for it, or I said I'd loan him the Ron's meter I have for a while until he can swing one of his own, because I baby that thing as my backup and use my Digisearch meter as my beater. Ron's meter only comes out when I'm in easy nice weather and wide open areas not risking the bang ups I've done to the Digisearch huntings the woods and so on.

Yea, think he's about "this close" to taking that first sip. Like me, he's owned a ton of units over the years, and gone back to several same units here and there like me over those years. Told him he might as well try just about the last heavy hitter out there he hasn't put his hands on yet. He's been talking of the old analog units with good long detailed audio and simple controls, after using many digital age stuff the last 10 years or so, and when I told him the Sovereign has the long detailed like audio of the old analog units yet with the numerous tones of a Minelab and Minelab depth, that might have pretty much been the last nibble on the bait before he feels the hook.

As my dad used to say, give him a little bit of line...He'll hook himself.
