Just ordered my X70

Donut

Active member
Hi! Everyone. I just ordered my X70, one of those spur of the moment things.
I hope I did the right thing -- cold feet!.
I have been using an old no thrills. White 5500/D.
The new cadillac spaceship (X70) will be like I am in a whole new world. I wont be able to sleep until I get and use it.
I just found this forum a few minutes ago and it seems to be a active and good sight.

Welcome to the site.

I have been a member for nearly 12 months, I just have not posted much. ( lots of lurking )

Heaps of great people here and I am sure you will learn heaps.

Don't worry about the cold feet. Your feet will get all warm and fuzzy the first time you take your 70 out. Be sure to read the facts at the beginning on the first page and then read the other posts. It gave me a huge head start. Print out the the posts with the how to operate sections and take them with you when you first go out to hunt. They are a great reference. This machine is so versatile. If your like me, you will soon be ordering more coils. I got mine with the standard coil and the 5 X 10 DD. I'm working an old spot with so much trash, it's almost impossible to get just one reading on an object with the standard coil. I ordered the 6" DD coil. I'm sure the smaller footprint will make it far easier to find the good targets. I can't wait until I get to know my machine better. I learn more every time I go out. So far I found a 1894 seated dime, lots of clad and a broach. I also found a small gold nugget on a claim I was invited to hunt on in Quartzsite, AZ. I also did air tests with a small amount of flake gold in a vile, and the 70 picked up the gold far better than my SD2100 V-2. The PI machine might be better for the deeper, larger nuggets, but the 70 sure does it's job.

Good hunting, John K

The 70 is at least a pound lighter than that old blue box your used to swinging. You'll have a hard time keeping the coil down since it's so light!! :yo: I swung a 3900 for over 10 years. Talk about giving you carpel tunnel!!! The only good thing is my right arm got to be larger than my body!!!

Good hunting, John K
how could you find a 1894 seated dime....if you found one its the ONLY 1 because 1891 was the last year for seated dimes before they started the barber dime series

When you go out with your new detector (70) make sure you take a BIG bag!!
Cheers!

Welcome Doug...no need for cold feet on that X-70..only thing you will regret is now getting it sooner: :ranting:

Good Luck & HH TomB

I don't know my coins too well. It's either a 1894 or a 1891 and I thought it was a seated dime. I took a picture of it. It didn't come out to good. Maybe you can tell me what I did find. I located it down about 4" at an old train station when the dug up the old cement road in front of the station.

Good hunting, John K

Why didn't the picture load, I'll try again. Too many KB's It loaded this time. On closer examination it looks like an 1892, must be a barber. I couldn't make out the last number until I looked at the enlarged photo of the coin.

John K
yup its a barber dime 1892 it looks like..first year for the series....still a good score man... where theres one theres more...so go get em:cheers:

reduced a bit more and tweaked it..

Nice going on the Barber!

I wish I could have hunted the site more. I only got in on the tail end of the construction. They put down a new road and it looks like they used fill dirt on the shoulders. Too bad because there used to be a bunch of bars across the street from the train station. The station was built in the early 1900's with a dirt street out front which was paved who knows how long ago with cement. I've gone back several times and detected the shoulder and have only found trash. If only I would have come upon the site sooner, I'm sure I would have scored much better. Now if the Brown Truck would just bring my 6" DD coil, I'll be off to hunt that 1950's era motor court that I finally got permission to hunt. Should be some good finds. I'm going to work it slowly and do a lot of digging. I stopped at an old church on the way home from work and found my first Merc Dime, a 1942 D. It was tucked right up alongside of the walkway of the front door. Only down a couple of inches. I love this coin hunting. Previous to this, I only hunted gold in the Arizona desert.

P.S. The Barber was found the first time I took the 70 out after only about 5 minutes of searching. Sometime it pays to be lucky.

Good hunting, John K

another good score man...heck silver is silver...i take it all

After reading the manual (downloaded from Minlab) , couldn't wait until the unit arrives!. It look like after running my older white with all those knobs to bump out of adjustment the, X 70 will be a snap to learn how to run. The hard part now is waiting. The dealer says it should be here ether Thursday or Friday. My wife better hope it comes because she wont be able to live with me threw the Holiday's.
THE HARD PART IS WAITING.

Hi Doug,

I have been using a White 6DB coinmaster for about 6 months. I bought it used about 12 years ago and never used it and now I am hooked. I too am considering getting the Minelab X70. I have never dug up anything deeper than 2 inches although I have found 12 pounds of coins (it's too much to count so I just weigh it) and about 20 rings...one with 8 princess cut diamonds, several 14K wedding bands and lots of sterling silver and rings with gem stones. But, my big problem is that I can't seem to get my machine set right at the beach. Since you have an old White, do you or any one else know how to set the discrimination so I don't constantly have the false beeps at the beach? My machine is not fancy, mind you. It has the tuner, ground balance, discrimination adjust and mode switch.

When I didn't know what I was doing I was finding all kinds of good stuff. But now that I downloaded the manual off the internet and am following the directions, I'm not finding much. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for your help in advance. Please let me know how you like your new X70 and how difficult (or easy) it is to use.

Patty O'Brien

Patty,
The 70 is a breeze to run. Since you do some beach hunting the 70 would be your choice. The 70 can be a turn on and hunt detector. Or if you like it has just the right amount of settings for professional hunting.
