Just order an X-1 probe-question...

Should I mount the probe on the shaft or on the battery compartment? I've seen it done both ways. Looks to me like the battery compartment would not be as convenient because of having to reach around the whole thing to grab it, right?

I have mine on the battery compartment and sometimes the cord is in the way and if you don't watch how you put it back the sunray stand will be in the way and it will fall out as you swing.
I think most mount on the upper shaft.
the mount is with zip ties so if you find you don't like it one place just cut the ties and try another.

by the way you will never understand why you waited to get one

Neal;
I have mounted mine on the upper shaft.
two positives; ease of access and the cam lock will sound off if you don't change the switch back to coil. First had mounted on the battery case and was easy to forget to change the switch back.
negative; the weight is more to the front but if you don't have any shoulder problems is not a big problem.

Neal, try both places, I'm right handed and have mine mounted on the outside of the battery compartment. I like it there, I had it on the upper shaft but for what ever reason I didn't like it there. On the battery compartment I hang the cord around the bottom of the control box. As I flip the cord over the box after serching with it I flip the switch back to the coil, no problem. As far as it falling out sometimes when it's on the Battery compartment, yea i've knoked it out a couple times over the last tear but no big deal. Try both places, it's easy to move.
You'll love it no matter where you put it.

I mounted my X-1 probe on the battery compartment and after Hunting for a few stuck in in one of my pouches that I carry on my belt. A little less weight and kept it out of the way. Just remember to flip that Switch back to the coil position after using it. <IMG SRC="/forums/images/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":)">
Been there already.
