It's almost summer in South Louisiana. which means high temps and high humidity. On top of that, it has become almost impossible to find places to relic hunt. Port Hudson battlefield has long been off limits, and understandibly so, but even those people who own land around it are not going to allow hunting on their land.
20 years ago, I could handle the heat, and would often speand the entire day out in open fields in the middle of summer- no more. Age 63 has really knocked me for a loop. But I continue, now hunting for coins in the cooler A.M.. It's still the only sport I love, and when I finally quit, I hope that my family buries me with a detector in my right hand and a digger in my left.

I bet you have another 10 or more good years to swing your Detector, Its great exercise and healthy, not to mention its something you desire to do with a very strong passion.
Put on some slick cloths and go up to some of those homes and even ones that could just be for coin hunting. You have nothing to lose but a lot to gain.
Yes I know it sounds easy but doing it, is another story sometimes. I have driven by a old mansion for years that is a business with a well kept large lawn.
Never had the courage to go up and ask because I always had on my jeans and hat. So the other day I was all slicked up and just got off work and was in the neighborhood.
Yes I marched right up those steps feeling pretty good about my self and prepared to get the big NO.
I love the Hobby to and couldn't take it any more, Rejection or not, I was ready to give it a shot. The man was quick and to the point with me, go right ahead, no one has ever asked
before, hope you find something good. Hang in there and keep on swinging.

CD,.Everyone gets frustrated with hunt sites and getting older but like you I enjoy the hobby.I don't bother with land owners they all ready have their minds made up.It is harder to find good sites but there are a few left.Good Luck

I know what you mean brother south Texas seems extra hot this year too. I have had some afternoons off from work and don't even go.

Mr. C D Smith, I can relate with you the heat and humidity (and the age). I started "goin out" in '92 or '93. Each time I went "out" the Passion was more intense. In the early years I had what I considered a true friend that would go with me and hunt. He finally got the "bug" and flipped out like I did when it came to metal detecting. Up in Ohio we found coins and other stuff that kept our Passion alive, even though the summers were a bit hot and humid. I've been down in NC,SC, GA, VA, AL, and Fl and know about humidity! It has been ten years that I lost my detecting friend and the passion to go "out." The last time I was out was in June of 2007 and it wasn't a happening thing. I was alone and I went to what I thought was a "cherry" site only to come away empty handed. That was the last time I had my Sovereign turned on. Things change, people change, sites change, but maybe for the good....where I had detected ten years ago was a location rich in history, many places to hunt and many that I never made it to...my oldest was an1868 2 cent piece, which I still have (somewhere) The experiences my friend and I encountered I wouldn't trade for a million whatevers...now I am in a new location where the most hated Northern General came from...and I need to explore the area and find out how the locals feel about metal detecting...if I ever find out I promise I'll let you know...
