I have read with interest all the peoples style of detecting. In more precise reads how you all track finds.

Some of us just make a note of a good find. ( Me)
Some of us list every find
Some of us List every find, the time, date, where and what
Some of us list every find..What, where, when, time, date year, condition, depth, value per some book or other.
Some of us list What, Where, When, Date, Condition, Depth, Color tone, Sky Conditions, What area of park or place found, Time there, Time left, you get the picture.

To me this is a Hobby, not a life style, or not something I want to spend days,& days putting into a program..That's just me.
Others like the tedious time involved listing everything ...............That's Great too.. What ever works for you.

My Question is this..Whats your style.... Simple, Semi tedious, very tedious, Or something even more.
There is no right , or wrong..........

My Style- Simple, Look at it Save it.
Whats your style ??

I am new to the hobby ( one and half months), so this may change over time. However I like analyzing results rather than spending time taking tedious notes. Coincidentally last night I just calculated my results to date. I feel that by looking at what I have done, I can better understand how well I am doing, and if I have any glaring weakness I should concentrate on improving. By doing this over time if I start slipping in an area where I once had better success, I will realize it and can think about why.

Pennies - 64.8%
Dimes - 17.2%
Quarters - 9.3%
Nickels - 5.5%
Wheat's - 2.3%
Silver - .9%

So far I enjoy this hobby immensely, and when I am out there "hunting" I enjoy being outdoors, breaking a sweat and getting some exercise. I enjoy the thrill I get from that little moment when I had dug my plug and my Garrett hand held pointer signals I found "It". At that very moment "it" can still be anything and I find it a thrill to uncover what it might be. While I am detecting I really have little desire to write things down, or keep a lot of notes. It would take something away from it for me. I would rather just absorb each detail of what I am doing, and learn that way.

Of course there is no right or wrong way to how someone pursues a hobby, the important thing is to enjoy it.

My style of tracking my finds is. I just write down the date and how much I found.

Thats what I do , how many of each coin and total amount found ,If I get somthing special I try to post a picture.

I like to track my finds more like Steven. but not so much detail that it becomes tedious. When I get home from a hunt, I rinse my finds off and lay them on a paper towel. then I can count them out and record them in a ledger. I'm a Math Geek, okay, there I said it. But not to the extreme. Doesn't matter to me whether a quarter is a 68 or an 86, but if its silver then that's different. I don't keep all the silver coins I find, just the ones that fill a hole in my collection, or that are an improvement in quality over what is already there. I don't record locations on the coins I put into 2x2's, for club meetings because although you could trust these guys with your wife or checkbook you don't want to trust them with you best/secret hunting spots.

The ledger helps me gauge how I'm doing toward my goals for the year. What my best month ever was. How I'm doing compared to last year, and so on.

Take care, Dave

I just try to remember and put them all in a jar when i get home. I have one quart jar almost filled since last august.

My clad gets dumped into a big cigar box.
My goodies get in a "display" box in a cabinet.

Since I dig writing I recently started blogging about my experiences.
Good post btw!

I treat it as a hobby, tallying up the total of the finds at the end of the hunt, depending what kind of site is being worked. On older sites, notes maybe taken and the site gridded to gain an advantage on good finds. Pictures are taken of items and then put into a detecting album. Modern clad usually gets dumped into a coin chest and tallied up at the end of the year.

I do keep up with silver coins, silver and gold jewelry recoveries and the $$$$ figures of clad when cleaned and banked. I keep it simple. HH jim tn

I've been detecting for 22 years now, so a find has to be pretty special to get documented. I've had a lot of "firsts", that mostly are committed to memory. A few are in marked 2x2s. Memorials and clad go in a jar for cleaning, with silver and other cents in their own jars. I don't keep count except to put them in rolls.
I find the hunt to be what makes my day rather than the amount found.
Good Hunting to you all.:detecting:
