I followed Mr. Bills instructions and built this modded Classic.LOL if it performs as well as it looks and air test this will be a great little detector. The little 600 coil will air test further out than the 8 inch Pro Scan coil.Mr.Bill earned every penny spent by his customers. Thanks Ron

Ron,

Looks like a professional build to me, looks great. It's nice to have a knob to set GB and Threshold with , I have an IDX Pro modified by Mr. Bill and it works great.

With that same coil that you have, I have nabbed Indian heads and mercs down to about 7" deep, great combo.

I also have a non modified Classic lll SL with the 4" Snooper 350 and I did the ground balance with a screwdriver and it has been doing just fine.

For those of you that do not have the mod, there is hope in a miniature slotted screwdriver, just refer to the owners manual.

Randy, talked to a lot of people who consider these old Classics good detectors for thrash areas and notice a few of these being used at the comp hunts.Need to make a trip to Staples and see if they can demo a label machine. HH Ron

Ron,

I am an old house yard hunter and it takes a fast response and a quick recovery to sort through the nails and The Classics will perform. They remind me of the Tesoro Bandido disc. circuit in a lot of ways and how they like to be "slow sweeped". Great detectors, without a doubt. Just don't trust the meter in heavy iron, if it beeps dig it. I set my disc. with a 3

Question for you Ron. I've read Mr. Bills mod instructions and as I understand them, you end up with knobs for control of ground balance and threshold and a toggle for SAT. I see you have a third knob. What's it for? Looking at doing the mod on a new to me IDX Classic.

Thanks,

Leeinsc

Lee,the third knob was intended for a frequency shift, but ended up adjusting the discriminate. This was a guess on my part where the pot was located for that function,at this point not sure if this can be done with the ID Classic or ll.I was impressed with the gain of sensitivity with the 6 inch coil started out at about 7-8 inches on a air test with a clad quarter and now 10 plus inches.I ordered the resistors and pots on line and substituted parts I had on hand and then replaced with the exact parts when they arrived with Mr. Bill stats, and this made a big difference.Would like to be able to install a frequency adjustment so this unit could be used as a comp detector. Thanks Ron

That makes sense. Should have thought of that since my IDX came with frequency shift and yours didn't. Another question for you. I'm planning to mod my IDX but have zero electronics experience. I have a good friend with the experience to do the soldering etc. I just have to get the parts. That's my problem. I checked the local Radio Shack and they had almost none of the components. Next step is check online which I did but I have no idea how to chose the correct resistors and pots. For example, pots have different length shafts. What length did up you buy? I also noticed that they sold many resistors of the same value. How do I know which is correct for my application? Could you post the parts list (along with part numbers) that you purchased along with who you ordered from?

Thanks again,

Lee

Lee,I got most of my parts off of Ebay, for the SAT.(R32) I couldn't find a 375k resistor and used a 400k instead so I got the toggle switch setup with the stock 220k resistor low and the 400k for the higher set.The 50k potentiometer for the( VR1) ground balance and a 100k pot for the(VR4) threshold.ID Meter switched to a 10meg resistor replacing the 3.9 meg for( R2:geek: extra meter target depth. One part I didn't understand (R7) to a 51ohm was the recommended replacement to the 100 ohm but noticed a decrease by a couple of inches in depth on a air test hit or miss on this change went higher and noticed the sensitivity improved.Mr. Bill suggested you could burn your circuit board very easy, use a low heat solder iron.Hope this helps with parts.
