Just learned something new about Vaqueros disc mode.:surprised:

Say , I just learned something about the Vaquero I had not known, I had little time so figured i would go up to the hill of many nails , and hunt in disq mode , the same settings i used in the 8" dime video , and to my surprise I dug two brass targets, i was using the 5.75" DD coil had the sensitivity maxed and the threshold @ 2 i started swinging and got a lot of what i now know to be false signals mostly Iron . and in almost every case the nails will only hit one time and miss on the next swing or not both ways or skip a beep or not repeat , but when i ran into the 1st brass pice it hit solid with every swing it never skipped or missed and it did that with the second target as well , which was about 3 ft away from the other so now i know if its hitting good one time and you swing and it does not repeat or misses its probably a nail now I am sure something round & flat may repeat but at least I know what Iron nails sound like and how they act both where about 4 to 5" deep tell you I am starting to warm up to this machine , I bet it would do well around the old farm house to it certainly has the power to get good depth have any of you more experienced users found this as well .

must be with that small coil that you can max out the sensitivity. i just have the 9x8 stock. whenever i get the sense up in the red. i get chatter, false signals in disc mode. tried all. adjust the gb a bit pos/neg. freq switch. thres, up down. just a wee bit over 10 on sense is all i can get.

Not me. Nails are repeatable. Sometimes they jump around and are hard to pinpoint. Where did you have your disc set ?

Great observations! You're definitely learning the Vaquero language and it will unlock the goodies for you. Those nail signals drive some people crazy (like me when I was still learning the machine), but in time become easier to differentiate from good targets. Because the Vaquero partially beeps on iron, rather than nulling out, it gives good solid signals on non ferrous targets right next to iron. Other machines completely null over the iron (and any non ferrous target right next to it). That's why the Vaquero rocks around cellar holes and other places littered with nails. I know it sounds crazy, but it's precisely what some people don't like about the Vaquero that makes it so good - those "false" signals are what makes a piece of brass or silver coin absolutely stand out in a bed of nails.

saquare nail you hit the nail on the head - hatpin i set the disq @ Iron I also found that with the sensitivity maxed It becoms or gets unstable at 3 o clock so i have to tone it back to get it smooth, 2 o clock is working smooth on this machine maybe some machines are a bit hotter and may need to turn back the sense just a bit from max . I am glad i got a chance to try the Vaquero I have been wanting to try it for about 6 years I can see how a new bee would get upset when in the nails because it gets really nasty on poping & clicking but when you get that good target its like the sun coming thru the clouds on a rainy day & then you see the rainbow of a good relic com up

It is a good thing that you can turn it up to a point that it becomes unstable. That means you are able to get max depth out of your machine.

I use the stock coil. I have a 5.75 concentric but i dont think it works correctly. On the stock coil , old rusty nails are unpredictable.Sometimes they disc out low other times high. When Im searching in the woods I usually use zero disc then thumb it up. They sound scratchy but hit both directions.

thanks camper. ive had a vaq 7 weeks. i run the same thres at 2, sense on 10, neutral gb. get good 6-8 inches in depth on coins. a bit deeper on some stuff. i dug a small fishing line sinker, little bigger than a pellet that was down a good 8-10 inches. im pleased with it.
