Just how good is the Sov GT compared to the Explorer II or MXT

For those who have used all 3 machines, is there any advantage of the GT over the Explorer II and the MXT. I have an Explorer II for sale and have been thinking about getting the MXT or the Sov GT. What do you suggest? I have never used a Sov yet, I have no idea what to expect from one. Thanks.

I guess its what you need to get out of your detector.

The mxt was designed around a gold prospecting auto ground balance circuit and also intended to have relic and coin shooting features added on to make it an all around detector.

It has just about all the features for all around purpose and has threshold mode if you want or run silent, it has a big selection of coils available along with after market coils also. It can use concentric or dd coils. It has plenty learning curve but is not a complicated programmable detector.

The gt sov as a coin an jewelery detector of orignal sov design improved now to also include gold prospecting with auto ground balance and tracking or a multitone id for relic and coin and jewelry shooting. Has the bbs circuitry .

I have both gt sov and mxt and although both are easy to use I find the learning curve of the gt sov a little harder as far as learning the responses and sounds even though they are various tones.I have the accurate gt sov meter which helps a great deal.

There is something about the sov that makes it detect in clutterd and mineralized places , I just seem to be finding more stuff and not always deep stuff. ( by stuff I mean coins and non ferous items some tokens , found a gold locket and chain yesterday in a volleyball sandpit area that also had iron pipe at the bottom of the pit. Only found iron pipe there before with other detectors.) I knew about the pipe and it nulled out but in all metal it showed up as clear signal. The locket showed up as a tone signal just above foil range. below nickel.( in discriminate mode.)

I guess you might toss your question to Mike Virginia Beach on the explorer forum he has used sov and explorers. From what I see about the explorer-11 is it has more info for id of targets I think the jury might be out as far as depth goes because I think operator ability plays too much a part in that department.

Of the 3 the MXT is the easiest and fun to use. The Sovereign GT, or any of the Sovereigns have a learning curve to them, some find it easy while other find it hard to learn. The Sovereigns are slow working detectors like the Explorer is and the Sovereigns are more of a turn on a go detectors over the Explorer. I myself find the tones easier to learn and understand with the Sovereigns as the tones seem to stay longer so you know you went over a target. Bot the Sovereign and the Explorers are better in getting the deeper coins and those close to trash as they dont average the signals like the other detectors do. I tell everyone that the Sovereigns and Explorers will give you more info for you the operator to decide to dig or not while the others detectors tell you with a beep you should dig what it thinks is good.
For hunting a area I want to check out fast the MXT does a great job, but if I am going to a well worked area where coins are older and deeper I take the Sovereign or the Explorer.
The Sovereign will put all the copper, clad and silver into one tone and number on the meter while the Explorer will give a differnt tone on differnt targets, so you can tell a dime from a quarter most times.
Depth wise i seem to dig more deeper targets with the Explorer, but also dig more nails too. As far as depth both the Sovereign and the Explorer have tied on the deepest coin.
The MXT is the easiest to use, the Sovereign has a bit of a learning curve while the Explorer you can do more with, but a longer learning curve I feel and to do great with you have to know it more and know what to set and when to set it for max performance.
