Just having fun with my wife and seventeen month old boy

We got out detecting as a family today just around our own house. It was such a beautiful day... We had our MXT 300, our small digger , a larger spade shovel and our pinpointer. My wife and I took turns detecting/ digging. The little guy kept stealing either the small digger or the pinpointer. At one point, he was trying to dig a hole but even with all his effort, he didn't get to far. He was getting good at making the pinpointer go off. We kept getting a reading in this one area. At this point I'm willing to dig anything just so I could tell you guys I or rather we found something. We dug and before we knew it the hole was big enough for my son to stand in. Keep in mind this is my yard and we're redoing it. I couldn't find it and I moved on. Next thing I know she has what appeared to be just a square nail..... well later on I asked to see it again. She lost it. I felt bad for her 'cause it was her first find. I also noticed I was getting alot of hits near my feet... It took me awhile before it dawned on me that I should've taken my work shoes off when I got home from work.....They're steel toed.. We may have lost what we found but It's all about having fun and I think I've got someone to dig my holes for me...soon I hope..Happy hunting to you all.. Jack

Hello Jack, Very nice post, but I do have to say when I read the "subject" line I wondered what I would be reading. What a great outing and somehow I knew it was your shoes that was making your machine go off. Lots of shoes have those little rivets that the shoe laces go through also. That's funny about your steel toe shoes. Anyway, with your wife finding a square nail, that's a good sign that you might be able to find old coins there also. What year was your home built? Keep up the good healthy family fun and hope to hear from you soon. HH, Nancy

Definitely file that one under " a good day! " When you bring your treasures with you, you're always successful. Congrats on some real wealth.

Hi nancy. My house was actually built by myself in the late 80's early 90's but my fill ( gravel and loam ) was brought in by another contractor and it's origin is unknown. We're digging everything... Lots of soda cans, lots of high iron and hot rock. I felt so bad for my wifes first real find that she lost. She must've spent at least an hour trying to find it with the pinpointer the first time in the hole that I dug and then probably another hour after she lost it. It's raining today so its indoor playtime with my little guy and then off to work at PNSY... I wish I could MD there as it is a very old shipyard... I can only imagine what's there.happy hunting to all.... Jack

Hi Scott... Yes, I love bringing my treasures with me. It was such a nice day with plenty of sun, and no bugs. I got into MDing because it would allow myself and my wife and my little guy to spend time together as a family. I also have old cars that I love working on but it doesn't allow much time for my family. When my son came along, I put my cars on hold.I love MDing and so does my wife. Any jewelry that I find is hers. I'm allowed to do all the digging. How can you beat that??? Happy hunting to all

And have you asked about detecting the old shipyard? That would be one nice place. Also, you might find that square nail again. When detecting over your yard, when you hear something LOUD, it's more than likely something on the surface. It could be that lost square nail. ;) HH, Nancy

Good deal Jack. Get your little guy into it early and if he likes it you can have your own "designated digger". I tried to get my son into MD'ing with me but he was already a teenager and didn't want anything to do with me or my "old man hobbies" ( I'm "only" 46 ). What is that they say about youth being wasted on the young? Your son obviously has a good father. Good work.
