The temperature got up to 38 degrees so i garbed the X70 and headed for a local park. Muddy, muddy , muddy , my shoes got heavy with mud. I didn't find much one nickle and five pennies and a bunch of pull tabs. It didn't matter. After four hours the temperature started dropping and my hands started getting cold. Had to clean the mud off my shovel in a snow pile. It did help the cabin fever though. Also my new Grey Ghost headphones blocked out the wind rushing through the trees above me.

Now I can make it until spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good for you. I feel for you that are stuck inside during winter. I am glad you got out, Beale.

Doug you're my kind of detectorist! I also got out last week under similar conditions, as I found a piece of beach 10x50 that the sand was exposed on. I found a boat load of copper pennies using the big MF DD at depths I won't mention, lest I be accused of hyping the X70. Because of the acidity of the water most of the pennies were corroded beyond recognition, and even nickels which are highly corrosion resistant had holes burnt half way thru them. So I came home with a pile of cull coins and pull tabs, but at least I could chase away some of that Cabin Fever. However.......tonite....another foot of snow! :rage:

Sometimes all we need is a little dose of the good stuff.

Nothin like getting out for a hunt; even if it's still brass monkey weather. It sounds like you will need to take 3 more doses of detecting to sooth the symptoms of cabin fever. Please consult back with Dr Findmall once you have completed your course of medicine.

The club I belong to had a "fun" hunt this last weekend. We went to a park next to a high school here in Portland, OR. The ground had been seeded with wheat pennies (all 1944 s types), some heavily used buffalo nickles, a very fiew pieces with silver (dimes), and various jewelry pieces (junk).

This hunt was supposed to have happened last December, but we got snowed out for 2 weeks+.

Had a ball. Ended up with:

18 wheat pennies -- 17 1944 and one I dug a 1951
3 buffalo nickles (couldn't determine the dates they were so warn)
no silver and no jewelry
5 zinc pennies
5 dimes
3 nickles
6 quarters

Yeah, nothing like a hunt to get you ready for spring/summer!!!

And to top it off, this has been the driest February in Portland that most can remember. It drizzled a little on us but no rain.
