Just got the XS

Purchased the XS last week, but with bad weather and hard work have not gone out with it yet.
But as I understand the manual and the Sabisch book, I should use FAST settings for trashy areas, should go SLOW when sweeping the coil, and should pay most attention to the tone and use the crosshairs as a reference point.
I will primarily be hunting CW relics, and the main nemesis I run into is square nails and baling wire which should, I hope, be eliminated by Iron Mask settings. And, if I understand correctly, I can fine tune the Discriminate settings on site.
As far as notching out bad targets, I should use the small or medium curser, depending on the item being discriminated and what else is eliminated when the trash is rejected. Does this sound right? Thanks in advance.

If your relic hunting you probably wont need much notching, the nails wont giive you any trouble running iron mask alone at aeound -8, not sure about the baling wire, depends what its made of..if its iron you wont hear much of it in iron mask.. you could always run in ferrous audio as well and just dig everything but the lowest tones

Go to your main menu,Then go to select,Hit clear to clear your previous screen. Then select nails,it blacks out a very small part of the upper left of the screen and accepts everything else. This is the setting the hunters use in Europe alot. They dig everything for obvious reasons, you probably will also relic hunting. And I learned from Jim that the less you have discriminated out the better you can tell good targets mixed with iron.

I'll try both ways. what really prompted me to buy the Explorer was that I borrowed an Excaliber and dug a token out of a hole literally filled with nails. My partner using a Fisher 1266-X was completely shut out by the iron trash in the ground. That experience really made me look at the Explorer, along with this and the FBS forum, and all of the help and advice you and others have given me. Deepfelt thanks.
