Just got the Deus

First let me say to see it is very mind blowing. Its small, its sleek, its very cool. 9 preset programs combining multiple XP machines into one completely wireless machine. True non motion all metal modes is a plus here because of all the cold rock.No need for a tall man rod.Super light weight. I'm afraid a big ox like me may break it. Hope to get out this weekend but rain is in the forecast. Welcome to the future of metal detecting. And it is so easy to use and understand.

Wood, really looking forward to your evaluation. Work that machine to a nub. Bart may have pulled off a coup by getting the dealership:)

I will. Report back to you soon. I would ask anyone interested in the Deus to go to the XP home page and download the manual first. If it is for you support Bart when you purchase. If its not don't become an arm chair quarterback when information starts coming in from the field. Thanks

Glad you got one! Cant wait to hear what you think. I will hold off my experience till I can get more time on it.

VERY IMPRESSIVE!!

Waiting to see what your impression is after a few hunts. I have read reviews both good and mediocre, so we will see what you think. Just for reference, what other machines have you used?

some good deeper programes to be found on the XP users forum .
save the settings

All models since 1969 both foreign and domestic. Arado was the first foreign brand.

George,

Saw your post and noted your signature line . . . "I use what works" . . . . . . We've been hunting for about the same length of time and over the years I've used countless detectors and as something that better fits my needs and hunting preferences comes out, I tend to give it a "run for the money" and put it through its paces . . . as those have hunted with me know, I also "Use what Works" and the Deus does just that . . . .

As you've said, the Deus is unlike anything else out there for a number of factors starting with the lack of weight, lack or cords, build quality and as I have found over the past few months, performance in the field.

I've talked with fellow hunters in Europe and the UK for the past two years on how the Deus performs and there is a notable shift to that model from other brands that had been at the top of the mountain for years. The one problem was that there was simply not enough inventory to meet the existing demand overseas for XP to even consider supplying the US market. Well, as time moved on and the factory moved to a new facility growing in size, they explored the option of expanding the Deus market (which required support in the US as well). Opting to start with the Deus, XP is now available in the US in very limited quantity and based on my experience as well as that of others that I have shared it with and those that have used it in other parts of the country, it is an exciting piece of equipment. Rather than boring you with the background of the company which is available on their website, a few points on the detector itself.

  • There are no cords anywhere on the unit - the coil, control unit and headphones all communicate with a very fast protocol making it ideal for searching in areas that are overgrown and swapping coils are a snap!
  • The weight - or lack thereof . . . . . .with the control unit attached it is 2.2 pounds . . . . removed it weighs just 1.9 pounds!
  • Lithium Polymer batteries provide a great deal of power in a small size - close to 30 hours on a charge and it recharges in under 90 minutes from totally dead!
  • Lightweight control unit - weighs under 4 ounces - with a very simple to navigate menu system
  • Choice of multiple frequencies (4kHz, 8kHz, 12kHz and 18kHz) - pick the one best suited for your target and area
  • Serviced in the US under a 2-year warranty

As more units get out there the find photos will start to appear . . . . . . I have several of finds made while coin hunting, relic hunting and beach hunting that I will get up once I transfer them from my other computer. My first find was a 1936 Wheat cent in a hole where 3 nails were sticking out of the sides of the hole . . . . . and that was at a site that measured at most 50'x50' and has been hit by probably every hunter in the area.

There is a learning curve but the manual is well written and can shorten the time to get the most out of the Deus . . . . . I'd be happy to field any questions on the unit or share tips that can address issues one might come across in their searches based on my time in the field . . . .

Andy, I think what I'm most happy about is to live to see a day when a game changer shows up. I was in awe. Kindest regards, George Tex Kinsey
P.S. I use the coil for a " Night Light"

George

I know what you mean about the coil . . . . . . soon after getting mine, I came in from the field and stood the detector against the wall when I got changed and forgot about it.

Went to bed and in the middle of the night I rolled over and jumped up as I saw a flashing light . . . . . . . turned out it was the LED on the coil.

I had to check with XP as I thought I had somehow forgotten to turn the unit off and could not figure out how to do it since there was no OFF menu option but it seems that when you turn it off with the touch pad on the headphones or control unit that the coil "goes to sleep" and the slowly flashing light lets you know it is not on . . . and the word from the factory is that the battery will remain charged for months even with the LED flashing the way it does . . . . . . pretty amazing power source.

You're right about the digital platform providing XP with a game changing perspective . . . . . . . the design team started with a blank slate and was able to incorporate features that they and others wanted to see in a "dream detector". Another example of innovation and use of today's technology is the USB port which actually does something . . . . you can update the software through the computer connection when a new version is released which is pretty cool in and of itself.

heres a coil mounted on my boot for parks use and i dont get any people bothering me as theres no stem .
in fact i could use 2 coils one on each shoe working at a different frequency .
for maximum coverage !

Targets, very clever my man or possibly woman. Wait! A woman wouldn't wear those lowly unfashionable shoes out to detect.

Unless she is 7" tall. LOL.

I think I need one. I have been looking at these for a little while...can't wait to see what you think after a few hunts!

What type of hunting?

and flashes when it is either in SLEEP mode or communicating with the headphones or control unit.

One expects the light to come on when charging but the slow flash when it is "sleeping" makes one wonder if they missed something in the manual and did not turn it off but it is the way it was designed . . . . . .
