I've been using the stock coil on my M6 for a while and wanted to use a better coil. I've heard the 6 by 10 DD is a good coil . i got lucky and I found one for 86 bucks .
I wanted something with better target I'd separation for parks beaches. I hope it turns out to be a good coil.
I've got an M6 and switched from the stock coil to the 6x10 and went back to a yard I had searched a half dozen times with the stock coil and within 30 minutes found two mercury dimes that the stock coil had missed.Love the 6x10!
Just a follow up: I can also tun the sensitivity up higher on the 6x10 than I can the stock coil before my machine starts chattering, so it's far more stable than the stock coil, as well as doing a better job of separation in semi trashy areas. I think you'll be happy with it.
Cool i usually hunt trashy parks often and sometimes beaches. I noticed on my minelab a smaller coil is better at picking up jewlry i hope its the same case for the 6 by 10 on the M6.
In my mind the 10x6 coil is the best coil that Whites have ever produced,i use mine on my DFX and it just makes it a great combination over here in the UK,some people say it looses a little depth over the stock coil i have to admit i have not found this to be the case and infact you can crank the settings up to go deeper than the stock coil.
The stock coil very rarely comes out to play these days, the main ones i use are the 5.3,10x6,12Hotshot and the 18inch Detech i find that these 4 coils cover most of my detecting needs, the latter 2 coils are not made by Whites but this is just my personal choice.
I put the sef 8x6 on mine and could'nt believe the size of targets I was picking up.No loss of depth over the stock coil and great in the trash....ultra stable as well.
Well first day out with the 6 by 10 it's not bad. A bit easier to use in trashy areas and sounds off targets much cleaner and allows for a slightly faster sweep speed. Found a buck ten in clad some were nickels. The only downside of the coil is its less deep than the stock coil on the M6 and Mxt . The m6 likes nickels and foil and pull tabs . Wich is a plus
I Use the 5.3 eclipse (6inch) for a lot of my hunting around structures and iron (nails mainly)infested sites. IN my IMO, the 5.3 discriminates better than the 6x10 DD in iron infested sites . I do have a 6x10 and use it in sports fields because of better coverage than the 5.3 and lighter (but not as deep) than the 950 stock coil. As far as smaller coils, I use a 4 inch coil on a cheaper ,but reliable machine. For most of my hunting (95+%) is done with the M6 and my most successful settings for jewelry are 95+ on the sensitivity and the discrimination knob set on the S in the word nails. Good luck with the 6x10 coil it is a good one!
Trackerman, the Eclipse DD is a great coil for separation or if you want to cover ground fast. It's a killer in the parks, schools, and private yards. I'm not so sure it is the best coil for beach hunting if you want good depth. Depth has been the only drawback for me as it is basically a 6" coil with a 10" sweep.
I get much better depth and still very good separation with the 10" D2 coil which also likes nickels and foil....my nickel count has gone way up since I started using it. One of my favorite coils, the SEF 10X12 gets surprising depth and very good separation.
Thanks guys the 6 by 10 so far ain't too bad. It defiantly pinpoints well and is much better iding than the stock coil. The other small coils I'm sure are awesome too. I have also read the 10 inch dd coil is a deep coil. For parks and trashy beaches I'm sure the 6 by 10 should do pretty well. It's only flaw I could find was its less depth for dimes and quarters. On Nickels it's not bad i suspect because of the M6s 15.klhz frequency. Just wish the darn coils werent so pricey.
I have the M6 and was wondering if i should stay with the stock coil or switch to something like a 6 x10 for beach hunting. Presently the only beaches that I can get to are full of trash -bottle caps, foil, aluminum cans/tabs and hot rocks. Thanks from Jim
