just got my new Etrac

Hi Folks,

Just got my new Etrac from Bart at Bigboyshobbies. I was out trying to get the hang of it and digging just about anything in with an FE number of 10,11,12,13, just to get an idea of what is coming out of the ground. I have the Andy Sabisch book and have been studying it in detail. I am just trying to get some hours under my belt with this learning curve. I know i will be needing to ask some questions in the future. The etrac is just so different from my other 2 detectors.Just wanted to get in here and kind of introduce my self. HH

I saw your video on the wiggle and have been practicing that. Thank you and I'll be in touch.

Welcome to the forum. That's a great machine you have there, I am sure you will learn to like it very soon. The learning curve is not nearly as bad as many make it out to be. Run it in some stock modes and hit some spots. You will have it down in a short time. Don't change things too fast as we have seen plenty of people get frustrated because they tried too much too soon. You can of course do whatever you want, I just thought I would share my experience and what I have seen others go through. I look forward to your coming posts and seeing all the great things you will no doubt turn up. HH -Marc

Thank y'all very much for the words of encouragement and tips. that is what i am doing. Slow and low. HH

Happy huntin' with it. Its been fun, and is a good solid producing machine. Looking forward to seeing the results. Keep us posted.

Congratulations - I am sure someone else will pipe in, but the FE line can be misleading depending on many variables - soil mineralization/composition, depth, nearby trash and target orientation. In the begining, I would focus more on the CO numbers, as they tend to remain more constant. If you are going to watch the FE, I would dig up to 27 if the CO number looks good. Best of luck, there are lots of smart people on here that can help with just about any question you have! Just to be clear - I don't necessarily include myself in the smart category. I know just enough to be dangerous and I get lucky from time-to-time! :detecting:

Run in auto sensivity for a while. You can use the stock coin/coin and jewelry programs. Just remember silver dollars will not be picked up without a slight modification. I would go ahead and turn my variability setting to say 29 and adjust my pitch threshold to say 19. Put a dime or quarter on the ground and listen. If you don't like that tone try adjusting your threshold pitch and variability. The two do work together, meaning both affect your target tone. Try setting your tone to multi. Try concentrating more on the conductive numbers when experimenting. Ferrous numbers are not nearly as important. Also there are two pinpoint modes. I like the sizing better. Try putting some unlike targets down i.e. dime nail close together on the ground. Scan and see what happens, then space them a bit more and continue to experiment. You are going to love your etrac. They are gifts that will keep giving if you will learn. You are in for a big surprise at how well it will do in trash at picking out coin. Good luck

Welcome to the E-trac forum! There is a lot of e-trac users on here thats been a great help to me
learning my e-trac since I got it in Dec. Feel free to ask any Questions. Alot of e-trac video,s on here too
thats been a great help. (yard huntin, park huntin, field huntin.) Check em out you,ll like,m! HH

Congratulations, you just bought the number one MD. I live in the East Riding of Yorkshire UK and get som realy good finds with e trac. Good luck matey.

Thank you Squirrel. I told the wife don't plan anything for the weekend, I have to study.:detecting: HH

Ditto on the stock mode for a while. Using auto sens to +3 is ok. Im finally getting used to my machine after about ten hunts and forty hours of use. Its a very powerful detector that gives a lot of good info while over the target. Go slow and dig more on tone than vdi.

Congrats on the new E-Trac. Going out on a hunt with an experienced E-Trac'er would be a good thing to try if you know of any in your area. Could show you in person all of the different settings/combination of settings and the different patterns that you can create. If you do not know any other E-Trac'ers in your area, just post that you would like to go on a hunt and maybe someone would volunteer his/her services.
