Just got my explorer se back from minelab repair and have to send it back in due to them not having good quality control.

I bought a minelab explorer se about a month ago. I haven't really been able to use it cause it has been at minelab the whole time. It was shipped to me with a cracked screen so I sent it in for repair. I just got it back on Monday and the screen is fixed. I took it to the park right away to start learning about it. Bad part is I started having problems the first 5 minutes of use. When ever I turn on the back light within a couple of minutes half of the display disappears. When hunting without the back light its fine. I am so frustrated right now cause I need to send it back. Shouldn't minelab have caught this when they were checking the operations after installing a new screen. I think they should have. I hope they at least make it right and dont charge for the repair but I doubt it. Anyone else have this problem.

I agree, I had issues late last year with my less than 2 year old Exp se pro. I dealt with their new "winter springs florida" warranty center and was completely dissapointed. (I'm being nice without bashing...that is all)

Yes, should have been caught IMO. But, on the other hand, if it only happens when the back light is on, that's a little odd and not sure I would have expected them to have thought of checking it with the light on. If all was well with the light off, not sure a tech would think..."Ya know, I need to see if it works with the light ON..." ??

Stinks, spellman, in any case. I would think they will take care of it for you...please let us know.

I can see where they might have missed that if you say that it disappears after a couple of minutes. They may only turn the backlight on for a few seconds just to be sure it functions. I would give them the benefit of the doubt at this point and go from there. Good luck !

I believe if you call their Customer service they ( ML ) will arrange for package pick-up at your house free of charge.. I had always gotten good service from them in the past..

Yes call them and ask for a shipping label because of a recurring issue. They do the work, but im not going to praise their CS its not all that. They have improved their turn around time. Frustrating to have that so soon, believe me i know on another machine, but im not certain its a common problem. The Exp really dont have a lot of know issues you will enjoy the machine once its done.

I had one of my Explorers fixed that came back with a different problem. It would automatically start up when the battery was inserted (wouldn't turn off either). Yea, it was a pain to send it back in, but it was fixed and the repair guys were great. This was years ago, so you are dealing with a different group. My feeling is that ML repair is trying their best to make customers happy. I had them fix my old Excalibur recently. They did a great job, came in under the initial estimate and it took slightly less than a month. They had great communication too, IMHO.

Hang in there they will make it right.

I spoke with them over the phone and one of the techs had me reset the detector to see if problem would go away and it did. But they gave me the option to send it in so they could check it out. I ended up sending it in at no cost just to be safe . So yes they have helped alot. I was just so frustrated about the issue coming up right after I got it back from Minelab. Its there right now I hope to have it back early next week and we'll see how it turns out. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.
