JUST GOT MY 1st CZ

Aaron

Well-known member
Hi Guys,
just got a CZ 70, and I have read through the whole instruction book last night. We finally got some nice weather up here in Michigan and the wife says as soon as I finish the yard work I can go hunting. Any tips would be appreciated, I will be hunting a football field, so I will be looking for coins and rings, any tips for setting up a proper notch program and other tips will be appreciated. I will check back before I go.:fisher:;)
Thanks, Aaron

First make sure you balance well and often. ALso crank up the sensitivity to as far as possible. Then personally I would consider digging everything for a while. Without a doubt you will learn what the detector is trying to tell you, both with sound and visually. There is really no other way to get to know your machine without seeing exactly what it finding for you. The very subtle differences need to be remembered. After a few pull tabs, if you are absolutely certain it is the exact same noise, ect, maybe stop digging and open the manual to eliminate that. One at a time you can figure your own stuff.

Thanks Chris,
I am having a little difficulty understanding the manuel. Am I supposed to ground balance even when I hunt in DISC? I was hunting mostly w/only the iron notched out. I took it out this afternoon for a couple hrs, found $1.10 in clads, and a 1948 D Wheatie. I traded my new Cortes for this detector(in super shape),it came w/a Sunray probe and a 5" sniper w/the stem. I like it better than my Cortes, I know it gos deeper, thats for sure, I especially like the pinpointing and the probe.

Aaron,
Run 0 disc and listen to the iron grunts as well. It will help you to decide when you're over an iron object and getting hi-coin falses or when you're actually over a coin. It will also let you know to slow down because you are in heavy iron.

Good Luck,
Dave

Tony, This is too good for a private message. I figured you ment to post it here, I hope you don't mind I shared your thoughts. This is exactly what the newer guys need to hear, *(probably lots of old timers too)

A lot of folks in here frequently ask the question

Good Luck,
Dave
I agree. If you run 1 discrimination, you still can get a noise from iron (the CZ often mixes the iron noise with a good noise, soft examples are always to be dug as it is often good, shallow it is probably crap) If you use 0 disc, you can just hear and ignore the iron, otherwise it seems you have to switch it back to 0 to clarify the sound anyway.
Another tip I used but forgot about is I put earplugs in and cranked the volume over #5. It has a sound booster that kicks in at higher volumes, but if you find a shallow quarter it will blast your ears.. This seems kind of counter productive, but I used to wear plugs and crank the volume to try and hear the soft tones. The soft tomes were often good and sounded like iron/good tones mixed.

Yes, you are right, Tony P.M.ed me this too, and it is great.
Thanks Tony! Aaron

Thanks alot for the help guys, I will try running w/0 disc. tomorrow.
I am starting to really like this machine. Aaron

HRM,
If you had headphones with volume controls in them, you can do the same thing.

Dave

Yeah, that's some good stuff. Thanks for posting that! :super:

Don't be afraid to go in some of these old worked out Michigan city parks they will still produce silver coins.I just started using a CZ7A PRO and I think its a great detector. Ron Oxford MI.

Thanks Mike: it's amazing what you are able to find on the Internet if you look hard enough. There are some smarts dudes out there.

Indeed.

Hey, by the way...I came across a couple of books that you were gracious enough to loan me and I had meant to get them back to you. I'd be glad to drop them by sometime...just let me know what's good.

Dave
The CZ20 has the headphones attached for waterproof reasons and they do not have volume controls on them.

It is good to hear that though, it may come in handy in the future.

Man! I cant beleve the place I discovered only a couple blocks away from my house, my high I graduated from in '85. I go around the football field and concession stand, every time I am finding a couple bucks in change, and hardly scratched the surface. I have found a couple Wheaties at 6". This thing gos deep! There must be some silver somewhere. I have set the sensitivity at 2 and still finding pennies at 6" I still havent found any nickels there yet, and it was the first place I started using the CZ at, started to think something was wrong, then I went to a local park today, and thats all I found 4 nickels and 2 pennies, and a old shotgun prcussion cap, down there 5 inches. It is a old park, must have been there for 50 yrs.
My wifes aunt and uncle live in Oxford, we live in Dearborn,
Thanks, Aaron
