Just got Bounty Hunter Junior

I just got a BH Junior to find a wire buried in the yard. While outside, holding the unit sideways, sensitivity at max, it can't detect a roll of quarters at 3" distance. Don't laugh, is it busted? I read the directions. The wire is about 10" deep, I think.

Don't think a Junior will cut it at 10"...the roll of quarters has to be in motion under the coil...if it is not detecting at 3", something is way wrong...

HH,

I've never used a BH Junior, but I'm almost sure it won't detect a wire (especially a thin one) at the depth you want. For that, you'll need something better... I'd recommend a higher end Bounty Hunter machine... do some research. Check Cabela's online- a few weeks ago, I saw they had a sale on the discovery 3300, which might fit the bill. Also, if you have a similar piece of wire, test it on whatever machine you use; that way, you'll know how it sounds/ registers on the detector.

I have 2 BH jrs for my kids and they work great. Doubt if it will go 10 inches though. Maybe you can try and find someone with a detector in your area who will come find it for you. If you live near me I would. Contact a local club in your area I am sure someone would help you out.

Thanks for the tips. Yes, the roll of quarters was moving (I read the instructions and theory of operation on line). I guess its back in the box and back to the store.
Thanks Again,
JB

What size wire are you trying to locate? Is there a fault in the wire? Do you know where the wire is roughly at underground? I locate wires as part of my work. You can witch a burried wire with two peices of wire. I should make a video to teach people my methods.

Open up your phone book and find the 1-800 number for the "before you dig" activity. They ill come out and locate your wire for you and any other cables, pipes and so forth that might interfere with the "excavation you are planning"

Usually a free service. Power, telco, other utilities don't want you cutting their lines...
