Just picked up an old Garrett Master Hunter ADS I because I have some friends who are getting into relic hunting and I figure this might be an O.K. starter unit. I have looked on the web for a manual and it is the only ADS that I can't seem to find one for. They are available for the ADS II, III, 4, 5, 7, but I can't find one for the ADS I. Can anyone help me on this one? Also, does anyone know if there is a Bloodhound Depth Multiplier compatable with it? Thanks in advance.

The manual for your ADS is listed on Garrett's manual page as ADS Deepseeker/Groundhog. Link is to the manual. There was a two box "Depth Multiplier" for it.

Is your ADS 1 a Deepseeker or Groundhog? Garrett made both ADS 1 models. The '1' was just a way to convince customers that it was an improved model. In reality...just a fancy colored decal. The ADS 1 is actually the same as the plain ADS. Some say the ADS models(prior to the different romal numerals) were deeper. Some even said the pre-ADS models were the deepest made from 1977-1979. A bit dated, but one of the deepest VLF All metal modes ever made. Many Garrett ADS Deepseekers in the late 1970s cleaned up in Civil War battle sites!

The Deepseeker was my first top end machine and it performed like a champ for many years. Depth was incredible. Only thing with those was the battery pack system wore out and after a few repairs, retired it. Truly a great machine, but make sure you keep the battery system free from ANY small particles of dirt to wear it out. (No small job.)

I started with Garrett in 69 with a Sidewinder BFO, and moved up in 78 with as best I can remember one of the first of the "Hunter" series. One of the ones without the Fancy sticker. It didn't stay at home long enough for me to remember what it was actually lke to use detecting , as it got sent back for repairs 7 times within a year and a half. I 'll say no more except that I have used mostly only Tesoros since 84, and will continue to do so. HH Charlie

The first Garrett vlf with the orange double stacked head was the depth champ--I found a 20lb Parrot at a measured 3.5 feet. I owned ALL the big Garretts after the ole orange head and none would go as deep. Man if I could repeat all those wonderful days in the woods!!!!!!!!
