Just got an AT Pro

Was out for a test run yesterday in the dry sand. I was in Pro mode, custom, zero & coin. Was getting very 'scratchy', broken signals on foil. Is this
common ???. No notches. I will be lake hunting looking for small gold which should fall in the foil zone. Anyone have any advise ???

Thanks in advance.

Run it Pro, zero, Iron disc at 30-35, Sens. at 4-5 bars. Iron audio off. Little pieces of foils shouldand will hit solid, usually right in the 40 area. Drives me nuts in the water as they float off, but you gotta scoop 'em!! Bottlecaps are the tricky thing with the DD coil, sound good with a high tone, but you'll hear a lowtone on each side. I switched to the 6 x 9 coil in the water so the BC's would just be a scratchy noise, not the high tone. I couldn't pass them by, that high tone was just too tempting.

I have found that the foil typically gives a bit of a scratchy tone with my AT Pro. Sometimes if the foil is squished into a tight ball or is folded unto a nice flat multiple layer piece it will sound more clear. I still them to be safe and to get them out of the area so I don't find them next time! :) Happy hunting!

That scratchy noise you describe is normal, and expect to get the same sounds on some ferrous signals with rust on them. When you do get a scratchy signal, take a look at the VDI numbers. If the bounce around to the 70's - 80's, dig them. Some old silver & copper can sound off this way if it too has accumulated a some oxides on the surface.

Good luck with your new AT Pro. It has got-ton me 4 x nice gold rings, many silver rings and about 30 silver coins so far this year. If you have ant other further concerns, please don't hesitate to ask. There are a lot of polished AT Pro users here on the forum. :)
