Just got a new Vaquero, have a question

I took it out for the first time yesterday and had some trouble pinpointing in all metal. I couldn't locate the target very accurately. Does anyone have any tips for me to do it better? The threshold retune was throwing me off. My first detector is a Silver uMax, so threshold in all metal is new to me. I couldn't tell exactly where under the coil the target was. It seemed to me that it sounded the same anywhere under the coil. Also, I want to use the Vaquero to hunt for nuggets occasionally in Arizona as I live just over the border in Southern Utah. What coils are recommended for this?

Thanks

When you set your threshold for pin pointing you turn the thresh knob until you can just barely hear slight a buzz. You can turn it to a loud buzz or silent. You want a slight tone so you can here the changes in that tone

Supper tuning is achieved by setting your threshold all the way up. In the supper tuned state it is extremely hard to pin point.

Hope this helps,

When pinpointing in All Metal swing a little faster.

Thanks for the replies. This is the first time I have used a detector with threshold retune, and it seems to be fast on the Vaquero. I had trouble with that as it would retune while I was trying to pinpoint. I guess I need help understanding how to use the retune. I don't know if I am making sense, but it would just retune before I was sure where the target was. Does sweeping faster then help with this?

I know what you mean.

I have difficulty telling you how to deal with retune speed. I have been dealing with different types of machines for a long time. I can remember having defficulty with the retune speeds of different machines but it has become second nature and I don't even think about it.

It's a nack of senceing the time of retune and having the machine to refresh itself as you are scanning the target and not let the threshold be saturated with a stronger signal while doing so.

If you scan around the target a little, notice any strong signals close by, they will over load the circut and you have to wait for retune. If it retunes over a strong signal it will stay saturated. Adjust your sweep direction accordingly to avoid the other signal if necessary.

There are different sweep speeds. I think the speed of the Vaquaro and Cibola are good for most types of hunting.

It's hard for me to explain because I never think about it.

The Vaquero has a better all metal than the Silver Sabre. It takes a little practice, but I think you will like it better.

I hope this is of some help,
