i FINALLY found a good ''tot lot'', kids playground, school yard, that has not been raped. i found 11 quarters, 7 dimes, 1 nickle, and 14 pennies real quick today. i had to leave, due to my SIL's dad dying, [ stopped in on my way to get mom/granny a bag of ice ] and i needed to go to a funeral home this afternoon. i had the 4.5'' sniper coil on my 1500, and wished i had a larger one, as there was not hardly any trash at all. now my plan is [ i always have a plan ] to save this area until i get my grubby little hands on the GOLD. this appears to me to be an excellent place to learn the ins and outs of a new, and different detector. and the wonderful news, as far as i could tell, there is a minimum of 6'' pine bark chips on the ground, making for really easy digging and covering the holes. i can't think of an easier place to learn VDI #s, and see what the new detector is acting like. this is a wonderful thing, from where i'm standing. all i need now is the GOLD........ i guess at this point, i'm gonna have to sit on my front deck and drink bud light lime, waiting on the UPS truck, another wonderful plan!!!!!

[size=large]one thing to keep in mind about some tot-lots. often times there is a liner on the bottom to prevent weed growth. it will also stop coins from sinking further. the owners of these lots won't take kindly to anyone cutting them up. not all may have these but you should pay attention to finding this out when digging. if your lot hasn't been hunted you stand a darn good chance for some jewelry. here's hoping.

Yep, those liners are a blessing and a curse. :)

all righty then i'll be on the look-out for a liner. although, being rural mississippi, i doubt they have ever heard of a liner... i am just tickled to find a virgin area, and was surprised at how deep the wood chips were. and, how easy it was to spot the coin when i got to it. if the depth read 1''-2'', i simply scraped with the pinpointer, and didn't dig a hole. i talked to the grandson this morning, and i am going to use the PRO there saturday, to try to find possibly a ring or whatever. the 1500 GTI . discriminates them, as i buried my [ heavy, with diamonds ] wedding ring yesterday, and it read as a pull tab. this will give me a jump on the GOLD, whenever it gets here. i also have a 6.5''x9'' concentric coil for the pro/gold, and probably will install it for this week-end. i have read several times of good success using the concentric coil, and i actually bought it for trashy areas, having 2 detectors it will fit. i'm real spizzed up for this week-end....i have found over 200 coins in the last month, now, i'm itching to find something good,,,, the good book says, ''SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND''
