Just finished watching the new Thomas Dankowski DVD...

and I can say that I was impressed! The DVD is 1 1/2 hours in length with a very nice format...very informative and entertaining...it made me want to watch it very closely as to what was being demonstrated and described...the 1 1/2 hours went by very quick...for $24.99 and $3.00 shipping/handling it was well worth it. For the many of us who live in the Northern climes, it's also a nice video to watch during the Winter months when we can't hunt to help us deal with the "cabin/detecting fever"...I always enjoy seeing a plug being dug and a nice Barber coin or Indian come to light after many years being lost. I ordered from the Dankowski Detectors website and I received it nicely packed a few days later with additional bonus information. Another thought-I know that I will buy any DVD Tom makes since I have definitely become a better detectorist and found alot more goodies since I started following his material. For example, after learning that you should sample relic readings on your CZ-70, I went out into my 1894 farmhouse yard and dug a nice silver war nickel that I never dug since I thought it was probably just another hunk of iron. When I got my 3D, I went out to my favorite 1830's farm site and pulled a nice 1867 Indian that I passed over with my CZ-70 since again it would have come up as relic or bounced. I know everyone out there has their own opinions about what I've said in this post but I think it's important to support those out there who are trying to improve our understanding of the hobby...just my humble opinion...I'll be on vacation the whole week so I'm hoping to get in some detecting time at some good old sites and posts some finds with my CZ-70 and 3D...HH

I also give NASA Tom's DVD two thumbs up! I am still blown away by silent masking which he demonstrates. With the knowledge I've learned watching this DVD, I went back to several hunted out sites and have found plenty of nice coins that others have missed. In my opinion, it's rare to find an educational piece of material and make it entertaining as well. I hope there's more to come!

and was very impressed. I learned mistakes I had made with my test garden. I found the iron masking demo interesting. Hunting in the field and making actual finds was exciting. I never realized that people still used shovels to coin hunt. I would like to see him do a beach hunt (salt water).

Is this video geared towards the CZ series, or is the information applicable to any detector (I have a Coinstrike and F4) ?

Thanks,
Brian

I'd like to also recommend that video - purchase it and it's proved inestimatably (is that even a word?) valuable

yes it is a great dvd!..i just got mine a few weeks ago,and it is full of useful info!..he takes you on some real hunts, and tells you what he's doing, and how he is doing it!..experienced to novice,a very helpful tool!

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the DVD.

I take it it's more of a general educational DVD vs. specific to the Fisher CZ series of metal detectors ?????

Brian

i thought so!... as the information can apply to any brand of detector!

I received my DVD today, and after six hours of hunting a local sports complex, I decided to take a look.

Lots of good information, he really affirms how important a test garden is to learn your detectors (sweep speed, masking, target separation, depth signals, etc)... I know, I know BB you told me so, now I can graphically see the importance. Guess my postage stamp front lawn will shortly become my metal detector lab :detecting:

I found it interesting how he uses the coil on edge as a pinpointer. I assume he's using a Fisher CZ, so I'm not sure if that would work on the other Fishers, but it's worth a try as he makes easy work out of pinpointing his targets that way. Also the way he described the tones is pretty helpful, but I'm not confident yet to not dig those "washed out" high tones

I'd love to find an old house like the one he hunted, he had some great finds (gold ring, several nice silver coins, old pennies, cool old key fob).
