I found this today at a old swim area i took about 40mins after work and found this bad boy about 12" or so.
The medallion was tarnished pretty bad but i could still see a little gold. I thought it was junk at first but once i got a feel of the weight and cut into it with my knife i knew i had a winner. The medallion is hollow but still hefty. looks like i just paid for all my remodel materials:detecting:
I cleaned it up with electrolysis.
HH
hope you enjoyed.

I am going back tomorrow with my tiger shark to find the chain i hope.
thing is there is a lot of iron and fishing weights where i found this but i figure with a medalion that big the chain must have been big to. most likley a braded one thats why i couldnt find it with the excall.

Sounds like a good plan. Good luck finding the chain.

That is Beautiful...nice find......

You said you cleaned it up with electrolosis. what type of machine do you have? How long did you have it cleaning?

Gerry

I made my own.
Cell phone charger mason jar stainless bolt gator clips lemon juice and salt.
Took About 20 mins to get all the crud off I let it run for 10 unpluged it took the object out washed it scrubbed it with a tooth brush put it back in for 10 and then buffed it with a rag soap and water.
In the lakes here gold can get a heavy cruddy tarnish thing going on almost like a tough film.

They are pretty easy to make.... get the phone charger from Good Will cheap and make sure you connect the correct cable to the spoon and target. Silver you have to be a bit careful on its a soft metal and can pit if left on to long. I use an old Ham radio boost.

Very nice! The excal is a killer ring machine but you are right, not that good on gold chains. I have found gold rings with my excal and one gold broach but no gold chains. I did how ever find a gold chain on the surface one day while hunting. That was the only gold for the day but the trade of is the stability the unit runs at . Good luck and I hope the chain is waiting for you along with other goodies..

Well I have not gone back to that spot yet. I plan on going back forsure by this weekend I will keep u yall posted.

On a curiosity note your electrolysis "machine" in the mason jar I'm assuming you attach power to the piece needing to be cleaned and ground to the bolt or is it vice verse. and if so what is the ratio of lemon juice to salt?

OK after establishing which to attach the gator clips the one that bubbles the + the bolt i just wrap the wire around real well. I quit using gator clips on that end because it destroys them to fast.
I put a spoon of lemon juice and a spoon of salt and stir up. I then put my items in (NOT TOUCHING) if they touch it will blow your breakers.. also never ever ever ever do anything unitll you unplug
the charge form the wall. 110 will kill.
Thats as technical as i get ..lol and i use a large mason jar...filled 3/4 of the way full.
I will make a step by step video next time i have a really dirty find.
or google how to make a home electrolysis there are several youtube videos on it.
Mine is nothing special but it sure works great. i have gotten rings clean that i thought would never come clean.

Good luck
and HH

Would you mind posting a few pics of this magic device that you made and splain it again? Sounds great and I bet others are interested, too. Thanks!

Ok I found a really old gold ring today from the 30s or 40s
I will make a video next week step by step process of how to build my finds cleaner and show the process.

This will be a great ring to show the process on as it is coated with a iron muck coating.
Stay tuned for the video most likely will have it done by Wednesday.
Or Friday.
