i recently purchased a garrett propointer which i really like, but i'm experiencing some weirdness lately with it, seems to go off all over the place at times making a little more difficult to get your target even will still go off after the target is actually found doug in a pile outside the hole, and have dug more dirt to see if there was another target to see if there was something else but nothing, what do you guys think?

I found 48 cents in a 3 ft circle one time like that. Set my pinpointer on the ground and it was going off. I then moved it and it still was going off. I thought something was wrong but then found 48 cents. None were wheaties and I got tired of popping them out. This happened another time and found a 23 coin spill. But right at 2 years mine wouldn't pick up a thing. I sent it to Garrett and they said my coil was bad. They installed a new coil and all is good. Try a new battery to be sure..

If it going off when you are holding it in the air away from everything, there is probably a problem. If it is going off when you set it on the ground while you are digging, it is probably picking up something. Bear in mind that it will pick up the smallest spec of metal that you will have a difficult time finding even if you have it in one hand! I wasted several minutes a few times trying to find a 1/8 inch scrap of metal that was dirt colored. After a while it became a challenge just to see what it was :)

If you turn yours on and off and on and off like most of us do, make sure it's not anywhere near metal when you turn it on, otherwise it can cause falsing or limit its range until you turn it off and on again.

These things are solid, but not invincible.

[size=large]done the same as khouse and jerry-wi. these things pick up the smallest of metal. i don't question it any longer. it goes off there's metal near by. if it stays on and is difficult to operate i have found it's because of low battery. they're man made but made very well.
