I think this is a large part of this hobby is always searching for used and new detectors and other related equipment.I'll scan classifies and Ebay on a daily basis. This gives me an idea of the value on current equipment in case I buy or sell off some of my equipment to upgrade.

Ron, I have a routine of going through the classified forums and ebay at least twice a day. I don't know why I do this as I am broke. It is fun to look. If I had more money, I'm afraid I would have a closet full of detectors. I only have two detectors and I have all the coils and acc. I really need. Now, I need some warm weather. I'm all dressed up with no place to go. R.L.

Thats a good thing Ron..But in all honesty, don't you think the Bay is a little high priced?. Seems like a lot of non detectorists bid em up, or someone does.

I cruise the adds and Ebay nearly daily. As to Elton's suggestion that Ebay is a little high priced, I'd have to say it depends on each individual listing. Sometimes that's true, sometimes not. I recently picked up a very clean Tesoro Conquistador with the stock spider coil and the 7" concentric for less than $200, not counting shipping. One plus on Ebay is if you feel an item is going too high, you don't have to stay in the game on that item. Over the long haul nearly everything I've looked for on Ebay turns up again and again until you finally make the deal you are happy with. Just takes time and patience.
My two bits,
BB

Elton,I think on Ebay a good Buy it now price on any detector will be gone quick. My theory there are a lot of buyer's looking for good deals on equipment. You could be right non hard core hobbyist could be raising the final sale but that's good for sellers

All the time. I look several times a day, especially the classifieds. I'm also looking for a couple thing's for this spring so I probably look more than neccasary.

HI Ron,I'm looking for a tigershark and will be selling my xlt. I know there is a couple of tiger shark's available now but I am not in a hurry just yet. I may just pop for a new one just to have a warranty. When I do get a water machine I'll also be looking for a long handled scoop. I like looking at the classified's to see how much thing's are going for. Gary

Gary, the Tiger Shark on our classifieds that sold today for 325.00 was the lowest price I've seen on these units. With a water detector it may be better to buy a new unit.

Thank's Ron. I thought that was a good price.I agree with you about getting a new machine. I alway's seem to gravitate towards the new stuff. I may be wrong but it seem's to me that being a water machine would expose it to all kid's of potential problem's. Although I believe that a Tesoro is a very well made machine. With a lifetime warranty and decent price it would be hard to go wrong. Thanks and may your winter be short,Gary

Gary,I have heard from a lot of hunters that used water detectors are very risky to buy. There is a lot of potential problems, especially ones from a salt water.Probably in the long run better to buy a water unit new.By the way compared with a lot of brand name new units the Tiger Shark is inexpensive.

I don't think it's risky buying Gulf Hunter's Excal that's all tricked out!

Grumpyolman,I agree there are some hunters who take the hobby serious like the Gulf Hunter that takes a lot of risk out of buying used equipment. There are a lot of Pros on this forum who I wouldn't hesitate to buy used equipment from, because if there is a problem they will make it right.

I am always looking for a good price on equipment. :detecting:

EU,I have sold a lot of metal detectors in Europe. Two of my best deals a coulpe of years ago I bought on Ebay from the UK an Sovereign control box like new 150.00 US dollars and a Troy X2 in excellent condition 225.00 US.

the various Metal Detector Classifieds. I will correct that because I have bought two units through the years off of E-bay via my oldest son. he has an account and does Paypal, but I don't. I just look to see what a 'trend' might be. Better deals on the Classifieds.

I always look at ebay, but do all my buying from the forum classifieds or a dealer. Seems a lot of the used detectors on ebay sell close to the new price. For a little bit more you generally could get a new one with a warranty. I think if you buy a used one off the forum, odds are the seller is a user and has taken care of the unit. Just my thoughts.

Monte,I'll agree with you most of the time better deals are on the classifieds. There are good deals on Ebay especially with the Buy it now's,but they are bought up in seconds or minutes after the item is posted.I stopped by the library last month and checked out a how to book on Ebay tips for buyer's and seller,s.One trick I learned from the book was you can have multiple accounts.Example horsetrader buys a metal detector, which he can flip or resale it on another account with a different name, that way the buyer can't track this item and know what horsetrader paid.Another reason the seller will use different accounts is to keep things in different categories one for metal detectors another for fishing equipment and so on.By the way Monte is one of these Pros that is very safe to buy used equipment from, a great guy to deal with.
