just curious do you guys like round coils or odd shaped ones better?

I assume you are talking concentric vs DD coils. The con has a round outter and inner coil which creates a cone shapped patter while the DD has a thinner inner coil that picks up targets in a more narrow pattern along the entire coil. The con's cone shape requires much more over lapping than the DD and more soil and targets fall under the coils requiring a good processor since many of the machines use an AVERAGE to determine the TID. With not as many targets or minerals passing under the DD you get improved TID yet retain coverage the entire length of the coil. The con has an advantage in pinpointing and may even be deeper in trashy areas. Thats why in really trashy areas some prefer con. smaller coils to work an area over the DD. BUT... in more open areas the DD cant be beat.

I think the eliptical double d's separate a little better. odd shape ones like the Joey 5 x 7 and big odd ones like the 10x14 eckcelerater

If you are talking elliptical or circular it depends on where you are hunting...... in the woods, brush, and clumps of grass and bushes, my Joey coil is great at sticking it's nose in tighter places and sniffing around....... In yards, parks and wide open places that are mowed or the grass isn't too tall then the round coil or SEF ( butterfly) swings easy. ...... I got a real lesson when I took my 10 X 12 SEF into the thick woods with brush , limbs, saplings, vines etc, this spring......... it was a nightmare.:surrender:..... the round factory coil would have worked a little better, but the Joey would have been great ....... if I hadn't left it at home .......:rage:

Its a challenge in the bean and corn fields here in Indiana with the DD... youd think they would come up with a complete coil cover for relic diggers.
