some baby turkeys walking out of our yard back into the woods. 13 of them.....There were 22 last week if this is the same group. Fisher Cats do a number on them here at night.... Not a great shot, but you can see them.

not like a couple years ago when they pecked on the doorwall for food.

Shepard would run them... She took her to her place a few weeks ago and things are looking up with the animals coming back in. Down to 2 dogs now who are to lazy to chase much.... I see them in the pasture a lot all summer. I like it when the young ones are
feeding on grass hoppers and trying to catch them... I'll try and get a shot of it or a video...Me and videos are not great friends yet, when it comes to transfers and converting.....

they are thick on the mainland areas skirting the border with Washington State but i suspect it is too wet for them here.

20 odd years ago Carol and i were traveling around that area of southern BC near the town of Creston next to the US border. I was amazed to see huge flocks of wild Turkeys in the fields and Orchards.
On returning home home i mentioned it to a hunting buddy who is an RCMP Staff Sarg. He was originally from that area and told me this........

In the mid 70's various fish and game clubs lobbied the gov't to stock Turkeys on southern BC but the all wise biologists said they could not survive here to which the fish and game guys replied, how come there are have been so many in the border areas for years? No answer of course.....

Flash forward to 1988, one year before Carol and i were in the area. My friend Al was there visiting his mother in the fall and noted the abundance of Turkeys. The local farmers were not happy with them at all as they could not plant grain with out the huge flocks picking it all up. They ate them often;)
Al and a buddy decided to go Turkey hunting. After taking several with the blessing of a local farmer they were confronted by a fish cop who told them they had broken the law! Al pulled out his badge, stuck it in the face of the young fish cop and said......the BC government says that there are no Turkeys in BC and they do not show in regulations, therefore we have broken no law! Now scram! The young fish cop left with a red face:lol:

This hunting went on for a year or so until the gov't wiped the Turkey egg off their faces and admitted as how there may be some around and created a limited season.
Mikie knows all about this:biggrin:

for acorns and beechnuts. All plenty full here on our property. But in some areas there are so many that the deer get in trouble in winter.
Our turkeys came from New York as a trade off. Here is a link on a little bit about them.....

CT DEP

I know they were on the plates of CT natives long before the state of CT there was enough of them to hunt. Now in some areas they are pest....They use their feet like big rakes and can sure tear and area up. We have them at the club alot. They do them up in those big deep fryers.... Pretty tasty.... They make a lot of noise flying up at night and can fly quite well......
