Just bought a Golden Sabre II.

Hey Smithobx,

Did I buy your trade in? :beers:

My wife has laid claim to my Golden so I haven't been able to use it much and all my accessory coils are just laying around gathering dust. I had researched the Golden Sabre II and I like the adjustable tone/notch features. Tesoro sent me a manual and specs along with a field test report, so when I saw this one come up for sale at what seemed a reasonable price, I had to get it. And I get to use my special coils again :clapping:

The only problem I have now is that the wife told me not to buy anymore. Going to have to figure how to work this out so that I spend the least amount of time in the doghouse or worse. Hopefully we wont :starwars: and I wont wind up :stretcher: or dead :goodnight: and instead we'll be all lovydovy:cheekkiss: (dont you love these smileys)

I'll have it in hand in a week or two and see how it does. At first, detector selection was about depth, now its about fun. :detecting:

The GS II is a fun detector, I've had two and really enjoyed using them but couldn't live with the limited depth. I'm very close to buying another Golden

That would be a very good deal. I was really interested in the Ace250 when it first came out, but I'm a tone man, and once I found out it really doesn't have tone id, per say, I cooled off of it fairly quickly.

If you get the Golden, Will you keep it unmodified or will you put the GB tuner on it?

Speaking of that, should I put a GB tuner on the GSII?, or is it even possible? Its not so much depth anymore, but coil compatibility. I figure if I need additional depth, I can just change out a coil. But I understand I need to have it balanced to work well with other coil sizes if it doesn't have a gb tuner.

Opinion???????

Golden days to you,

Mike

you could have gotten a Pantera. My understanding is that GSII/Pantera combo was much the same as the Silver Sabre series was to the Bandito series...the addition of GB to the same platform.

ps. I hope you find lots of goodies with it! Give me a run down on how you like each one (golden vs. GSII) when you have had a chance to play with them both.

If I can talk him into selling it I'll probably leave it as it is and if it needs balancing I'll do it with the internal pot. Talked to the guy today at work, I'm nudging him along as best I can but he's still undecided. It's not hard to add a ground balance pot to the GS II. If you pull the circuit board out and look at it with the face plate toward you it will be the 100 k trimmer pot at the right rear of the board. All you have to do is desolder the trim pot, solder in three wires and run them to a 10 turn pot. If you do it, finding a place to mount the new pot will probably be the hardest part :).
