After seeing these units in action at the Buckeye comp hunt I had to have one. These detectors are difficult to find looking forward to using these unit in the field. The Ohio hunters swear by this detector and told me they preferred this detector over the 1236-X2 in the comp hunts also said to have less problems with interference.

Hey Ron I saw that one on E-bay. That is one sweet looking detector,It looks brand new! I always wanted to try one,But I am so hooked on tone I.D. I don't know if I could live with out it.

Harold,I always liked the 1236-X2.I have exclusively used multiply tone detectors it wasn't that bad when I switched a couple of days to a Cibola. The 1235X is a weapon of choice for these top comp hunters and looking forward to try one of these detectors to find out why.The one I got is pretty rough and needs some TLC,but the core unit is worth the work and a couple minor cosmetics repair or parts. Thanks Ron

I see where the one I am talking about is still for sale. And I notice it still has the original box. But he has it priced up their though. Still a nice original Fisher which ars getting hard to come by.

I received the 1235X everything was intact but needed some elbow grease.Face plate and knobs had built up dirt took a cloth and some Q Tips to get the grime off.The mounting brackets still maintained a tight fit.Came with the old solid 8 inch coil I read post that said this is lighter than the spider coil but it felt heavier on and off the rod assembly. The coil bolt was old Fisher plastic with a metal screw,so this was replaced with the standard nylon.I had an extra bolt from my Sovereign that I used had to drill the holes out larger on the coil ears.Once fired up a quick air test gave a reading on a dime 7-8 inches with max sensitivity oh well not a lot of coins floating in the air ground matrix is where it counts.Trip to the coin garden next revealed the 1235X is a serious coin detector fast sweep or slow will still give a strong signal lock on even on the 6 inch silver dimes . I went to a couple of well worked parks and found a couple of wheat's and found three dollars in clad.I have used the 1236-X2 a lot and would have to say the 1235X is very close performance wise. The 1235X does feel heavier not sure if its the coil or rod assembly or a combination of both. The Dis on off knob is too large and found that after a while it was turned down from my setting so this was replaced with a smaller knob to prevent this problem.Bottom line I think the old 1235X will remain a top choice for comp hunts until something better comes along. .Word of warning your top end high dollar detector may fall short in the comp hunt against this grand old detector. HH Ron

I think if the 1200 series units had a notch system or away to put a remote ID meter these detectors would beat out 95% of all equipment being produced today for conventional hunting. HH Ron

That would be awesome. Now if some how you could give it tone I.D. then it would be my kind of machine!

I bought a 1235X new when my daughter was about 6 years old. She's 30 now.

It has found all kinds of stuff, coins, charms off charm bracelets, toy cars, blue jeans buttons.... you name it.

I love this unit.

A few days,(nights), ago I found the most valuable item I have ever found....................

A 14 kt gold medal that weighed 1.6 gram.

I'll dig around when I have a chance and find the factory manual so I can share it with other members.

Fisherfinder, nice find.I was surprised how many people swear by this old detector.I was talking to a gentleman at the Buckeye comp hunt I asked what he was using and he said this old 1235X was his first choice. He said he had a DFX as a backup and was looking for another 1235X but they were hard to find.I mentioned what about the 1236X-2 which is a very good detector and similar his answer was no the 1235X worked much better he tried the 1236 and it fell short for the comp hunts.Yelp the old 1235X is still a great detector that has stood the test of time.HH Ron

Hey Ron,
Thanks for the reply.

I have been considering a 1236x2, I've heard they are very good, and they use the same coils as my 1235X.

Well, last night I was looking at the specs on the 1270X, it seems very good,
right now I have my 1235X and a 1260X. I plan to sell the 1260 and buy something I have never used before.

I really love this stuff!

Detecting is a way for me to relax and not worry about a thing.
.

I forgot to mention that I really like the pinpoint on my 1235X.

Can some of the members with more experience tell me which Fisher units have that same feature?
(I am kind of sure that the 1236x2 has that feature, but I have never used one)

Works great for me!

I used the 1236-X2,and pinpoint is the same the button has better ergonomics larger and soft rubber again works the same. The sensitivity will adjust to hear a slight threshold. The silent mode I didn't use that much some users said this could cause one to miss deep targets. There was a preset on the dis knob very low with a click placed you there. The volume was the on off I used the Fisher in line probe on mine and really liked this setup. Also used the five inch coil and had great separation and depth got a lot of silver dimes in thrash I missed with the Minelab.Only used the 1235X about three times and seems very close to the 1236.The 1235 may be more stable.Easy and cheap up grade to the three piece rod asm.I liked the spider coil better and will get one for the 1235x.I used the 1270 and 1266 deeper but not as good for park hunting coins IMHO. Thanks Ron,

Does the 1270X pin point the same way as the 1235X?

Oh, I am having a small issue with my 1235X, where here can I ask for some advise on what may be a service issue?

Thanks
.

I was wondering if you had found the manual and are willing to share. I have a 1235X and no manual and love the machine.

Steve,I don't have a 1235X manual, but have a 1236-X2 manual.Having owned and used the 1236-X2,1235X and 1225X,I would suggest the 1225X manual would work better.I'm curious does anyone knows if the frequency adjustment is the only difference between the 1225X and 1235X.I know the box for the 1235X and 1236X won't work for a 1225X unless you want the face upside down.HH Ron
