Just bought a Bounty Hunter Platinum

Been detecting for many years, tried lots of different brands/models over the years (mainly Tesoro's) but this will be my first Bounty Hunter. Once it gets here and it gets warm enough out I will test it out against my Minelab Musketeer Advantage. Been wanting to try a Platinum for awhile. Steve.

hi,

can you tell us how you like the Bounty Hunter Platinum, do you think it will be a good buy for the money?

did you have the chance to try your Bounty Hunter Platinum yet? if you did can you post your thoughts......

What part of the country do you detect in..........mineralization levels are nice to know when evaluating a machine. Thanks...and best of success with the new machine.:)

I also just bought the BH PLATINUM,it was very erratic, the discrimination was terrible {It said nails were dimes},the pinpoint only worked half the time and you cannot use this thing at the beach it will go bonkers and drive you nuts.I did manage to find 58 cents maybe i just got a defective one.I figure this is a crude version of the gamma 6000.I sent it back for a refund.I guess i will stick with my BH pioneer 202 which works great on the beach or in the dirt. mike

I have no problem with mine. Works solid.

I don't have any problems with my Platinum and for most detecting I reach for it instead of my Time Ranger. It's lighter, only uses 1 battery and is easier to see the large LCD screen. I have found around 3000 coins and several silver rings since I started using it about a year ago.

It is very sensitive with the standard 8" coil and depth is really good.....it hits hard on dimes and quarters at 7+ inches.

Recovery time is good and I can sweep faster than with the Time Ranger which likes to be worked slowly.

Separation seems to be better as well.

Discrimination works really well and it is easy to program.

Pinpointing with it is very accurate and usually gets me to within 1 to 2 inches, or less, of a coin and most of the time I can just pop a coin out of the ground with my screwdriver probe if under 4" without having to dig a plug.

I have never used mine at a beach though.

It does seem to be sensitive to certain types of EMI.....I don't even turn it on inside the house. I hunt in some areas where I prefer to keep my cell phone handy and turned on if you know what I mean. When it rings the detector goes a little wild....also goes nuts when near underground cable or street lights when they come on. Everytime that happens I think that I have found the motherlode of all coin spills....only to realize that it's just my phone is ringing. Other than those instances, it seems very stable while detecting compared to my Time Ranger.

There are some similarities to the Gamma 6000 from what I understand, especially the screen appearance and some simpler scaled back adjustments for discrimination, slightly different circuitry, etc., but I don't find it to be crude at all....quite the opposite....a fun and easy to use machine for the price IMHO.

I have to agree with Mike. Mine is unstable for the most part. Almost never can leave disc on 7 sens. Have to back off on all metal sens too. When I get it stabilized the disc mode can find things at 2 or 3 inches. Sometimes all metal mode is nice and deep out in the woods. Batt doesn't last more than 6 hours. ALSO- I have to send mine back as it stops making target sounds every 1/2 hour or so. I have to power it off to get it to work. I can hear the clicks when I move the cursor around from mode to mode but no target sounds. I worked with it for about 20 hours so far.

Hi Steve ,

I have been thinking of getting a Tosoro , I want to get a Compadre , do you have a Compadre ? My BH is great , but I would like to explore other Detector's also .
