Ive been using the stock and a 15 inch wot, i blew my shoulder out lifting weights and need rotator cuff surgery, so i bought a pistol pulse probe and took off my x1 probe to make the detector lighter, i also bought the 8 inch in hopes it will take the strain off my shoulder until i have the surgery normally i can swing 10 etracs! but i just cant stay away, so did i make a good choice and any tips on using it on the beach or land thanks

do you have a bungee harness yet? When you get up, it will lift with the body, so you don't have to hold it

I had rotator cuff surgery 7 wks ago and have been using the swingy thing and hunting left handed. A little slow, but works pretty good

I have the X-5, an excellent coil in trashy areas. Obviously, not the best choice to scan a large area. The X-8 may prove to be an excellent all-around coil.

I had major open rotator cuff surgury a few years ago. I can swing my E-Trac for fairly long periods of time. But, when I get tired I simply swing with my other arm. Works just fine. Just my 2 cents. Good Hunting.

WOW thanks didnt know that many ppl had the surgery. How did most of you get hurt? I got hurt weight lifting all my life, as for the swingy thing whats it called ill try looking up it is a harness?, I tried the coil out yesterday, makes things a little litter, and great depth cant complain with sunray they make a good product for minelab

Another suggestion would be--if you are in an area where you can (such as short grass or smooth ground)--just let the coil lightly glide over the surface.---That takes a lot of the weight/pressure off of the swing.-----Obviously, this doesn't work that well in rocky ground but in some areas it can really help.------I messed my right shoulder up in a tree trimming accident a couple of years ago & doing this has helped me.----I'm about like a bull in a china cabinet trying to swing a detector with my left arm so I still only swing with my right.----------Del

goodidea! With a tesoro cover over the stock coil

Get the swingy thingy and put your 15 inch wot coil on and go have at it. I use mine when my arm gets tired on long hunts or when my shoulder acts up.
The clip on the end of the bungie that clips to the harness can be a little bit of a pita. Every time I kneel down to dig a target I fiddle with the clip to unclip the detector. Well the plastic keeper on the clip was too much to fiddle with so I just cut the keeper off and now it's more like a hook. Works great.

I have just finished covering a yard with the 8" coil and tonight went over it with the 11" to see if I could pick up any deeper stuff but found nothing. So the 8" does a good job just a little less coverage.

I also blew out my shoulder some 5 years ago. I did not have the surgery even though EVERYONE told me it would never heal. From not being able to lift a gallon of milk above the waist to now is a big change for me. I now have about 85 to 95%% of my strength back and can throw a football again. Needless to say I am more care full now. I made my own swingy thingy for long hunts (don't always need it anymore) by using a Good Quality back pack with an adjustable bungee. at first I used it all the time and under some real duress. Now I use it when hunting with my 14 inch loop for hours on end. I did lots of things to build back what was left of my shoulder but detecting was a major one of them and I believe that I have learned to use completely different muscles in that arm. shoulder can still get sore at times and Ill switch arms if needed but I'm not fast with the left arm.

just sharing with you. I blame the shoulder on hard labor, too much Raquel ball, and WAY WAY to much fun detecting for years.

good luck,
utahshovelhead

This post really hits home! I have been having shoulder problems the last couple of years. Tryed about everything and was considering the swingything. I was wondering though does it rubb up against the housing or scratch up your machine? Thanks.
