Well, my old town park has decided to install new playground equipment so just prior to the bark chips I got in and made some good finds.
I have hunted this park over and over with probably a dozen different detectors. There have been countless others detect it also. The amount of nails bottle caps and just plain trash have masked some good finds. I always use a small coil to try and get-around as much of the trash as possible, but it is thick! Friday the City scraped about 5-6 in. of sod and top soil from an area about 30'X50' and took with it a bunch of trash. I went in Friday night at 7:15PM with my trusty XL Pro and the 5.3 coil and detected for about an hour and a half and made a few saves. I dug a real nice 1897 Barber dime, 1909 Barber dime, 1912D Liberty Nickle, 1936 Buffalo Nickle, and a 1965 Jefferson Nickle, a real nice 1891 IH and a 1934 Lincoln. It rained hard later Friday evening so very muddy Saturday but I made another attempt with my Xterra 705, w/ HF 6" coil and recovered another silver dime 1917 Mercury. Rained a bunch again last night so very muddy again today but may give it a whirl one last time before the chips go on tomorrow.
Like I said I hand many others have hunted it many time but as you well know you never get it all, I guess my hunts definitely proved that. Probably still another or two lurks beneath maybe to never be found. Oh for the record I have found out where the soil that was removed was taken so the 5 loads they skimmed off may also hold a few goodies.
