Just Before the New Tot Lot FINDS :detecting:

Well, my old town park has decided to install new playground equipment so just prior to the bark chips I got in and made some good finds.

I have hunted this park over and over with probably a dozen different detectors. There have been countless others detect it also. The amount of nails bottle caps and just plain trash have masked some good finds. I always use a small coil to try and get-around as much of the trash as possible, but it is thick! Friday the City scraped about 5-6 in. of sod and top soil from an area about 30'X50' and took with it a bunch of trash. I went in Friday night at 7:15PM with my trusty XL Pro and the 5.3 coil and detected for about an hour and a half and made a few saves. I dug a real nice 1897 Barber dime, 1909 Barber dime, 1912D Liberty Nickle, 1936 Buffalo Nickle, and a 1965 Jefferson Nickle, a real nice 1891 IH and a 1934 Lincoln. It rained hard later Friday evening so very muddy Saturday but I made another attempt with my Xterra 705, w/ HF 6" coil and recovered another silver dime 1917 Mercury. Rained a bunch again last night so very muddy again today but may give it a whirl one last time before the chips go on tomorrow.
Like I said I hand many others have hunted it many time but as you well know you never get it all, I guess my hunts definitely proved that. Probably still another or two lurks beneath maybe to never be found. Oh for the record I have found out where the soil that was removed was taken so the 5 loads they skimmed off may also hold a few goodies.

Nice finds...

At a tot lot I was going to try last week, a couple fellas were raking up through the bark chips. They work for the school district and part of their job is to rack and clean. They were just finishing up when I arrived. They had their vehicles parked in a fenced & locked area, and had the keys to put away the rakes. Bad enough that more schools are getting fenced in around the entire perimeter, and I'm seeing the same on parks with set hours.
I'm not big time into tot lots (unless my normal hunts were like yours), it's just I like to once in awhile hit a few when in the mood - and when there isn't a bunch of crazy kids running around in there.

That 1897 barber dime looks to be in very nice condition. Great finds, definitely hunt the soil that was removed if your finding coins like those.
