Two fast questions here. If I use a White's 5.3 coil with soil condition of 75 how deep should I expect the 5.3 to penetrate? Second Question: Using my 9.5 coil my depth reading on the LCD says 12 inches. I'm thinking of purchasing the new 14"DD coil since I've heard it goes deeper. But will my LCD display show depth numbers greater then 12 or will 12 still be the maximum # on the display? Or will it say 15 if something is detected at 15 inches? On slow days my mine wonders. Thanks for the help. Ron Z

Kind of hard to know--I would think you should get a least 6 In.---If you are getting a lot of 12 in targets I would think a lot of them would be trash--What are you looking for (Relics)--then ovcourse some would not be trash---The DFX does not say over 12 because if you get a good readind at 12-Even if its 15 your are going to dig---All you need to know is its Dam deep--I dont ever remember getting very many (if any) 12 inch readings--What have you dug at that depth----------DeathWind1

12 is the max number on the display.
FYI: On my 1400 DD with my MXT, the Pinpoint depth is a little off at depths past 8 inches; it reads an inch deeper than actual target depth (i.e. 9" actual = 10" display). From what I have been told this has something to do with the design of the DD coil.

I've dug 2 .69 cal bullets and one plate at 12 inches. Several coins from 5 to 9 inches. But mostly everything is about 4 to 6 inches deep.
So in other words if the display says 12 inches and I dig that far and find nothing and I'm still getting a strong signal from the MXT I should keep digging. Thanks all, Ron Z

... the depth reading feature is calibrated to DIME sized targets. Thus, if the target is BIGGER than a dime, the target thus appears "closer" than it is, thus, the depth reading will actually be shallower than it truly is. In short, a quarter 6" deep may read out, on the depth reading screen, as being 4" deep. A flattened aluminum can 15" deep may read out at being 1" deep. What we are dealing with is a "size to depth perspective" kind of thing. THEREFORE if you get a target which reads out at 6" deep, and digging that far fails to retrieve the target, it is plausible that the target is BIGGER than a dime, and DEEPER than the screen shows. Should one dig deeper targets? Only if you want to recover them! When relic hunting at old sites, I'd dig ALL deep targets. Yes, many will be junk, some won't. And, under most circumstances, the 1400 DD will give the user that extra depth to get those really deep targets. Hope this helps; HH jim
