First off wanted to say thanks for the assistance and information everyone so kindly offered at the hunt in Fondulac.
I did manage to buy a detector but went a little on the cheaper side to see if it was something I was interested in.
Ended up getting a Garrett AT Pro 2 coil kit and a Garrett propointer.

Wanted to post a couple of pics from my recent two outings. First time out I spent 45 minutes (was getting sick) with my new detector. Ended up finding a little bit of clad and a Hot Wheels Car.
Today ran out and spent a couple of hours at a local residence and the find was a little more interesting. My first silver and a ax head.
does anyone know what the large D ring I found might be? The lid is a presto and was immaculate.

Here are a couple of pics.

Thanks again to everyone I met out at Fondulac.

Way to go on the Barber!!!!! Congrats!!! I would take that one any day!!! Very Nice Find!!!! :clapping: :please:

Fantastic Dave, wow a Barber with your brand new detector and you are in the 1800's club already...........Congratulations.

I'm no help on the iron, but is that Barber a dime, quater, half or a dollar?

Yeh I was a little stoked when it popped outta the ground. A whopping 2" down.
Now if I find these regularly... this might be the hobby.....ha..

Have you guys already had your monthly meeting this month? I would like to come down for it if you haven't.

I love it! You're doing great and congrats on the 1800's coin. The jar lid is cool find too. Even the axe head. You're off to a good start! Let us know what the silver Barber is? Inquiring minds want to know. Again, congratulations and HH, Nancy

I was getting ready to post a reminder........... meeting is Wednesday at the North Branch Library. We usually get there about 6PM and the meeting starts at 6:30.

Oh I am sorry I didn't do that in the first place. It is a 1894 with no mint mark of any kind on it.
Thanks Larry for letting me know. I should be there.

You're killing us Dave. Is the Barber a dime, quarter, half or a dollar? :hot: My guess is a quarter?? :) Thanks and HH, Nancy

Sweeeet. Congrats on the Barber Quarter

Your first silver on your second outing is impressive, not to mention that it was a Barber and a quarter. I was going to say that the "D" ring could be off almost any kind of leather or fabric strap, until I realized that it is as big as the axehead. Is it solid heavy iron, because if it isn't, it could be the handle off something. If it is heavy, then I could only guess.

Yeh the Ax head is probably 8 inches or so long.
Not sure but it was big, heavy and very deep probably 10" or so.

This was a find off an old farm area. I was thinking something in the lines of horse farm harness or field equipment.
Thanks everyone it was exciting to find the quarter.

Thanks Dave, I love the back of the Barber quarters.....Aren't they pretty?! HH, Nancy

Yeah crazy how that old silver is sometimes so shallow. Usually that way due to sidewalk dirt being tossed into yards when they repair or other reasons along that line. That 1876 seated half was only 3 inches deep at Keith's place. 1901 Barber from there was also about the same depth. Your machine shouldn't have problems on targets 7 inches deep or above. You just have to learn to swing SLOW!!!
