Just added a new G2 to the stable: What settings do you use?

I've recently got into metal detecting and bought Omega 8000 with the extra 5" and 11" DD coils....it's a great machine finding lot's of stuff, but also wanted something do do a little beach and gold prospecting so I recently bought a Tek G2 ver:4.
I'd like to know what people are running their G2/GB's at for beach settings..do you run them in all metal or disc mode?
From all I've read G2/GB seem to handle wet salt beach sand ok...haven't hit the sand yet..still snowing
I hope to do a little gold prospecting with it also...chime in foke's any info would be appreciated.

If you don't mind digging everything then run in all metal. However, if you want to eliminate that pesky foil, switch over to the discrimination mode and run in the high 40's. Most gold rings are found between 50 and 70/72, so running at a high 40's discrimination setting should net you most gold targets at the beach. If you want to be sure you can find micro jewelry (e.g., thin gold chains, etc.), you have to run your discrimination in teh 30's. But note that running at this lower level will cause you to dig a lot of foil.

Also consider getting the 5x10" elliptical coil to your stable if you want to hunt gold. It goes deeper on small gold than the stock 11" coil.

I run at 40 and allot of people use this a base line to start from.
The reason I hunt this way is 40 is pretty much the small foil break line and I like to hear everything so I know when to slow down.
40 still gives you full iron range. To me that means that is as high as I can run my disc and get the best depth still.
That being said these machines are more than sensitive enough to micro jewelry hunt after all they are prospecting machines first and foremost.
The final reason is Ive found several gram or sub gram pieces of gold jewelry and most it hits in the low 40s.
What works for you is always best and some experimentation in your area or style of hunting will always benefit but at first I would listen to everything this machine says and dig lots of questionable targets so you get to trust what its telling you.
