Just a thought.....

I wonder if it is posible for
Garrett to come up with a low cost
salt water machine. A lot of us don't have
the money for a PI or more expensive machine
that would work well in salt or dry beach sand.

You have two problems to keep this from happening.

First is that making a machine waterproof is more expensive to engineer and manufacture.

Second, while you play with single frequency VLF detectors, none of them perform well in salt water environments. You are either using PI detectors, dual frequency detectors or multi-frequency detectors. Again, engineering and manufacturing costs are higher.

I onestly don't see salt water machines getting any cheaper than they already are anytime soon. Sadly, "inexpensive" and "salt water" just don't go together.

I was thinking aong the lines of a PI low cost detector.

I just came across this detector called Detector Pro Headhunter PIRATE.

The Headhunter Pirate is a vlf single freq. machine, not a PI. They make a PI unit but it's much more expensive. You can find the occasional Garrett Sea Hunter, a PI, on the used market for a reasonable price. I want one but can't afford another purchase right now!

I have used the AT Pro in salt water & found quality targets with the stock headphones just GB it and sweep slow. It won't go as deep as a PI but will find the goods. It will false when it hits the bottom but you learn that after using it. I have also used it at the wave line where the waves break it gets chatty but you can hear the tones through the chatter. Now on the dry sand it is my detector of choice get to the beach early pull out the pro and run a busy beach, I use a fast sweep speed and listen for any blip then backtrack and dig, by doing that I can usually find fresh drops as well as old ones then I grab the Sand Shark and hit the water. Where I live in Fl. I have seen as many as 5 detectors on the same beach. The Beaches here are kept pretty clean.
