Was out detectin' since the school's are out. Got out to the field area and decided to try a/m mode ONE more time. I was astounded to hunt nearly 5 minutes without a signal! Had to pass my screwdriver in front of the coil to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Well, to make a long story short-the iron nails, paper clips, etc have a multi-beep sort of like a coin on edge but with more beeps- sort of dit-dit-dit-dit. The washers will still sound off as well as batteries (AA). The kicker was that there were quite a few nickels there that had a funny coating on them that had been missed by others. But I bet I didn't receive over 10 signals that would have been picked up by the disc mode anyway. That's the other kicker-when in doubt it's so easy to just flip the disc switch on and the big iron will either sound or blip. Now I got to thinkin' (dangerous, I know_) that if school was out and I cleaned out the trashy signals, and next year some rings were lost, and since I'm finding more nickels, which are next to rings.......hmmm.

I have a problem , i like to dig everything untill i get to tired but like you say if you are going to be hunting a site near you why not clean it up then you can put the 3x18 on it and kick aks nextime and its amazing how many goodies are hidden by dominant trash that is a big crumpled fiol or a bottle cap close to the surface i found another necklace today just digging trash it was not gold but hey they get lost

I tried that and couldn't find the "gold ring" smash hit I had hoped for.

Sorry guys. I forgot to mention I was finding coins like crazy- my only intention was to post that the all metal mode wasn't all that bad in some areas and that some iron in this mode-which according to Monte is not a true a/m mode (awfully close) gives itself away and can be overlooked. Thanks for your reply, Gunnar.
