I'm no expert at this but I'll give you my take. I felt that I was having the same problem as you for a while. That was until I slowed down. Those deeper targets are going to give you just a little chirp if you are going to fast. When I get a quick little signal, I try to resweep it a number of times to get it to repeat. It will repeat and show up in the upper right if it is a good target but it wont't sound as clear as a shallow target. It will just be a little scratchier or broken sounding. That's what has helped me...slow down and then when you think you are going slow....slow down some more. Once you get the ear for the deeper targets that's all you will want to dig.
Hope this helps and good luck!

I had about the same problem as you for a while.I found out that the used explorer I got had been sent in for an electronic problem. Then I started questioning whether it was working properly or not. That was also the time my finds dropped way down. There was nothing wrong with it other than I had lost confidence in it.Once I told myself that there was nothing wrong with it but the user,I started finding good deep stuff again.I also had to keep telling myself to slow down.
I saw your sweep speed on the fbs.My opinion is you are swinging way to fast.Try putting 2 pieces of tape on your kitchen floor at exactly 3 feet apart. Then with your detector turned off, sweep with the middle of your coil over 1 piece of tape to the middle of the coil to the other piece of tape.Go 1 foot per second.Count to 3 during your swing 1 way.I think you will find your swing is way faster than that, which is costing you depth. The minelabs work best with a sloooow sweep.
Give it a try before you send yours in.And don't forget to have faith in it.It just doesn't get any better than an explorer.

Name here is Robert. If I'm not mistaken I
think I read in the forum where you are from Lehi. I live in Highland. I think I have had about the same experiance as you on depth. I don't think I have recovered anything much over 6 inches. But I believe that what the others responses to your question have been are true.
If your are from Lehi I would like to get a chance to get together sometime and compare notes. Maybe try to find a Deep signal and compare how our machines see it before digging it. If you're interested send me an email
