Junior G-Man badge

Hit an old log school (pre-1900) that was converted to what is now an abandoned house today. I have worked this site twice and am digging pretty much everything to clear out the trash in order to get to the good stuff that has to be there.
Much to my surprise I pulled this badge from about 4" in a pretty clean area about 100 yards from the school house.
I have searched the web for info and have found pictures of a different Junior G-Man badge but none like this. Does anyone know anything about this particular style of badge?

Also, any ideas on how to clean it without destroying it?

don't clean it!You see that rust colour in the upper left hand side?If you clean your badge it may turn all that colour. The patina on it looks terrific to me and it helps to bring out some great details. All of that can be destroyed..I wouldn't chance it..
