Jumping Ship

Well I thought long and hard on this, but I gave up the Quattro today for an Explorer 2.
The Quattro is one heck of a machine, but for my style the Explorer 2 is just faster and I like to be able to tweak all aspects of the machine.
Good hunting to all in this forum and thanks for all the Quattro tips, they really paid off.

I wouldn't call it "jumping ship" Dave, I'd call it moving from an "deluxe" stateroom to a "First Class" luxury suite. You're still on the FBS "ship" but your amenities have been upgraded. :)

I moved from the Quattro to the Explorer II. I preferred the Quattro on the beach but like the Explorer II better for land. But I did very well with the Quattro in both places. I do like having the extra tweaking room with the Explorer II though.

Hi Dave,
My husband (who has an Explorer ll) says you may be sorry you got rid of the Quattro, particularly if you're on the beaches. He says the Explorer is no doubt a quicker machine and very good for use in trashy ground. You'll eventually find that you'll have your own personal settings that you like which is where it seems the quattro is set to anyway. The Explorer no doubt has superior discrimination ability, but with all that, he still uses All Metal with no discrimination (IM-16). But what he does like about the machine is definitely the quicker resetting, and the backup in the Explorer Forum classrooms. But there are times he justs loves to pinch my quattro! (when I'm not looking!). He says: Quattro for beaches, Explorer for trashy ground. I bed to differ! I still think Quattro is pretty amazing in trashy ground. Just look at some of the pics I've posted over time!:)
Cheers Angela

Hi Mike I jump ship also traded my Quattro for a new X-TERRA 50 like it much better and alot faster, but still have my SOV.GT and EXPLORER II with S-12 and X-12 for the beaches.

Can't beat the Minelabs for the beaches. I use the Excal there now...I just got too paranoid about dropping my machine in the water. It's just like using my old Elite. Not as deep as the Quattro, but still very good.

So what does the X-Terra 50 excel at?

Man, that was an interesting set of posts about Quatro VS Explorer. I can only speak for the Quatro, which is "Great Machine anywhere" but.... How can you argue with the logic of "moving up" to an Explorer. I guess I'll have to own one to decide for myself. Personally, I'd like to "keep" my Quatro, buy and Explorer II and an excalibur for the "wet stuff" unless I can purchace the housing Mike is sharing with us from that guy from New York. I think if you had all three, you'd be pretty set up. Interesting bantor on the subject. I'm still listining intently. Don't get me wrong here, but from what I've experienced with the Quatro, and read, "intently" about the Explorer, I'd have to side with Mike on his post. :geek::(:|:yo::|:O:geek:
