July 3rd Hunt

Lost my cell phone thought maybe it may have been lost at the park.So I retraced my last places I hunted and came up with no phone.Brought the Sovereign GT along and hunted for a while.Rick and Larry hunted with me here on my last and I remembered a faint target I had Larry check and forgot to dig when I went on a tangent about how he should change his name to DFX Larry.Larry explained they went to Ohio for a hunt and ran into a Guy named DFX Greg.Anyway Larry said you wouldn't get along with this guy you and probably end up in an argument.I told Larry I heard that name somewhere could it be Hollywood DFX Greg.Anyway rechecked the target easy to concentrate on hunting alone and retrieved a 1918 wheat cent. The park is on a 15 acre hill that slopes off to the lake,so just for the heck of it I tried a steep slope detecting backwards down the steep hill. With a slow scan I got a solid 148 on the Sovereign meter and retrieved a worn 1919 Buffalo nickle down about five inches.Since the early day of my detecting I orbit around a good find and today it worked a nice soft high tone with 179 on the meter yielded a 1941 Mercury dime at about six inches.Again I'm running out of time have to stop by the store for grain, but now I' m in a searching orbit around the dime another 148 low clear tone down about five inches a 1934 Buffalo nickle.I found another three wheat pennies a 1920,1921 and 1946.I'm still looking for my cell phone.

Looks to me like the longer it takes you to find your phone, the better:biggrin:

Usually the hunt is better when you slow your pace.I don't think the slopes were worked because of the difficulty. It looks like the extra effort will pay off.

This is about my fifth cell I got wet or lost in the last year and half.Have a good 4th.

Congrats on that hunt! 2 Buffs and a nice Merc in one day would make me happy. Good job, Beale.

hi ron, it seems your orbits are working very well! i do the same thing - the 10 ft. perimeter search. it works well for me too. it sounds like it may have been a hill where kids would sled in the past. great finds, ron, i'm sure there's more there. hh,

Gray Ghost, Beale,I hunted this way at Kirtland AFB back in the 1970s. I usually orbit until I find another coin and orbit the next until there is nothing left to circle. The park has a lot of level ground that still produces but the slopes will be a priority at this point.Looking for Barb and Seated silver still a ways off but maybe?? Thanks

Nice finds Ron and you are right about hills and slopes. Besides a lot of swingers probably passing them up, others that don't usually aren't careful enough, like you were. HH jim tn
