We travel to the Caribbean to shallow water metal detect as a group sharing expenses. This February 9-16 we will go to a new secret Island as an exploratory trip. There are no guarantees, but we always find gold and have fun in the process. YOU ARE INVITED! OPENING FOR 1! This trip is limited to 4 and going so far are George, Jay and myself. Women invited too.

This is not our first trip and we've made many, many Caribbean trips. Our trips are informal, so do not have any great vacation expectations. This is not a tour nor a detecting class... it's our hobby and as a group we share expenses, making the trips affordable. We've rented a small Villa and car to get around to beaches. We always detect in the water, keeping a low profile. You will need a waterproof detector and we recommend a Minelab Excalibur. If you are a water hunter most likely you'll have what you need.

We spend most days detecting different beaches. Lunches we eat out on the road and we may eat dinners out at local inexpensive places, or we may cook simple dinners at the Villa. We expect detecting partners to be responsible and serious about detecting. This is a group thing and we stick together keeping track of one another at all times.

An opening like this is rare.. so if you want to go act now! You will have to make an affordable non-refundable trip deposit and purchase your own airfare to match ours. You'll have to book your airfare like now for best pricing. We do as we say, are well known and will forward you our website if interested via PM. Going will also be your foot in our door opportunity on future trip invites!

If interested send me a PM, SH34.

Seahunter we were in St. Maarten (Dutch side) a few months back. did not bring the MD. Did not know
if there were any rules/laws against MD'g. Locals said it was legal. Did not talk to the proper
authorities may get a negative response. I did read on several forums that you could. We may
be going back in Nov/Dec 2016 and might bring it with me. What about a carryon for the MD. Is that
how you guys carry it. I have the Excalibur II. Great MD. Mine breaks down to three pieces,
the longest one being around 24". Is that doable in a backpack. Any information is helpful.

Thanks

Will do! We've detected St Maarten many times over the years and never had any problems. Is it legal to detect a particular Caribbean Island is always a good question. The problem is getting the correct answer is near impossible. The Official you ask may be having a bad day and tell you NO when it actually is legal! Sometimes it's best not to ask and we go through this all the time. Many locals and even some police feel the gold we're looking for somehow belongs to them and state what we're doing is against the law. Yet I would say at least 90% of the time we have no problems detecting the Caribbean. Now gaining access to all the beaches, well that's another topic! In general play it smart. If a cop tells you to leave, do so. (We always hunt in the water where on most Islands that's public- so we do ignore locals and hotel security ordering us to leave... especially after showing them all the dangerous sharp trash we remove. Quite often they'll threaten to call the cops and we respond with a go ahead- because they never make the call, involving the police in their lives) It's best not to argue and if you have to- leave and come back later. The best way to avoid such situations is to keep a low profile, get in the water right away, keep quiet and never flash finds! Keep your scoop underwater when possible so as not to appear a threat. Always show locals your found trash and let them see you dump it in a trash can. With all this said be prepared for anything to happen. For years we've gone with... we'll find out what happens when we get there and usually things seem to work out. So by all means bring your detector to St Maarten! The best answer when asked... tell them that you're looking for coins and most will crack a smile!

We always pack our detectors in checked bags between clothing and have never had a problem- Never. Sometimes detectors in carry on causes problems. Everywhere you go you have to explain what the thing is, which can slow your travel. Some new guys who do not listen to us, have nearly missed flights because airport security had a problem with the detector in their carry-on. Yet they make it back home. So those who choose carry on... well, OK.

Just for fun... we've tried every detector you can think of in the Caribbean. None find as much gold consistently as an Excalibur- Period! It may not be the deepest or find smaller chains/gold... but it finds the most gold for us and why nearly all in our group use them. Only a CTX 3030 can compare and the Excalibur is a much better machine for travel. The Excalibur loves big gold and when you scoop those big pieces, you'll soon forget about that small stuff. The quickest way to find less gold in the Caribbean is to use a PI. Some guys do not believe this, but they learn quickly using a PI and watching us scoop up the gold. One in our group is a detector dealer and quite often PI users on our trips buy his back-up Excalibur before the trip is over! The only PI that has found lots of gold at times is the Garrett Infinium, which obviously does way better in black sand. Good Hunting- and to ALL, the 1 spot for the February trip is still open.

Thanks for all the information. If I could I would go in February. Keep me posted on future trips. We already have a trip to Destin in May with the family.
Will do some MD'g and a little golf. I got my Excalibur ii about 4 months ago. I bought it used, but it was in excellent shape. I'll post some pictures on the next reply.
The MD was already out of warranty, so i'm assuming that it's a few years old. By the outward appearance looks like its never been in salt water. Still in all it's a great md.
I love it. I tried the shoulder harness did not like it. Seems like everything gets in the way, so went with the Plugger straight shaft (3 piece) with the over/under and love this setup.
I want to change the headphones and go with the PP/DISC switch on the hand grip. I need OBN (joe beechnut) email address/phone. Can not find it anywhere.
How do you have yours setup and do you recommend these changes. Thanks again for all the info. Wish you guys a happy trip and find more gold on this trip.

Thanks

I've tried every Excalibur mod and have concluded the stock machines are just as good and more reliable. (keeping Caribbean shallow water hunting in mind) I use the Plugger carbon fiber and currently favor a stock Excalibur II 1000. I hunt in discriminate with 0 discrimination and sensitivity as high as possible without excessive nulling. I hardly ever use all metal and view my detector as a set it and forget it sound machine, digging mostly gold range tones only. I leave lots of silver behind, but always dig loud silver/25 cent tones, as quite often that's the sound of BIG gold rings! I tend to cover more ground than most and only care about the gold I can randomly find. The more I struggle to hear deep/small responses or try to cover every inch of ground... the less I find.

I try to keep the hunt fun and know just as important as your detector is a positive mental attitude. Always know there is gold to be found and your job is to put your coil over it! If I ever enter the water thinking this place does not look good, or have my mind on something else, I find little! Think gold and you'll find gold. I know from experience that statement is true. Somehow staying positive puts my Excalibur in the right spot. Sounds strange and I no longer try to explain it. On one trip we hit a desolate beach. The guys thought this was a waste of time, but I felt positive walking to the waters edge. Set my machine down and turned it on. Bam- a gold ring right under my coil and the only piece we found there! Talk about the odds! I now expect to find gold at every beach.

Anyone interested... the February trip opening is still open! Join the adventure to a new Island (for us) and get future trip invites. We go as a group for fun, safety and sharing expenses. So the trips become affordable. There are several regulars and the trips usually fill up quick. Regulars obviously get first opportunity going and we limit trips 4 to 7, with 5 as the average. Most of the time we all get along- as treasure hunters seem to think alike! Obviously not everyone can go on every trip and here is your chance. Chris. No that's not me in the picture!

Still open for 1! Contact via PM for info. You'll find out where we're going, more about our group and the cost. Once you say "Yes", I'll forward our itinerary so you can purchase your airfare to match ours. You can pay your deposit share now or when you arrive on the Island. This trip happens to be very affordable and the deposit required is about half most of our trips! The only reason you are being invited is because by going as a group sharing expenses makes these trips affordable for all. This is not a business because if it were we would be charging lots more to go!

We do not guarantee the finding of gold, however we've never been skunked! Usually we find thousands in scrap gold. We do not share finds and each going keeps what they find. We always return lost items to Rightful owners when possible. You will be a stranger to us, however we find that most treasure hunters think alike and you'll fit in fine. If none want to jump on this opportunity soon, I'll have to close the invite and budget for the 3 men going. At some point you will not be able to obtain affordable airfare. So if interested PM me for details. SH 34
