I was very careful pulling the unit out of the housing. I do not think I pulled the green wire out of the board....maybe, but I don't think so. It is easy enough to fix if so. I am assuming it goes in the ground 2 spot. I was wondering if either one of you or anybody else looking knows for sure if the green wire does actually go to the GND 2 spot.

Chris

I think I saw on one of your posts that you were an electronics technician. Maybe it was somebody else, but evaluate my comments and see if it fits with what you know.
It appears as if there's solder remaining in the GND2 connection point. Looking at the picture GND1 looks like it has never had heat near it. RXA, RXB, & GND2, have some traces of heat just to the right of the connection points. GND1 does not.
The remaining piece of the green wire might be seen on the underneath side of GND2. Can't tell by the picture.
Knowing just enough about electronics to get myself in trouble. RXA and RXB are probably 'receive' A&B. Since that wire is near both grounds and the grounds work the same as ground is ground anywhere in the circuit, my guess either would work. Look it over carefully and by the process of elimination you might be able to determine because of its length, etc., where it became disconnected.
The best bet is somebody can look at there's and give the correct answer for sure. Let us know please...Jim

Thanks for your reply. I posted this hoping that JOHNMARKHAM or Cupajo would see this as they are more knowledgeable than I am. I think JOHNMARKHAM is or was a electronics technician.

hey there,
i have to agree with grumpy, id say gnd 2 is where green wire goes, just solder it back into place with not to much solder....can you solder?? if not send it to me and ill do it and send it back to you..
let me know..
if you have a muliti meter you can trace ground to board down easily..
let me know
john

i am a electronics technician/ assembler. judging from the pics you had a cold solder joint/ lack of solder at gnd 2.( really poor looking solder job by the way)
this is just a guess but, it looks obvious!

Thanks for all the help and input from everyone. I soldered the green wire back to the GND 2 spot. Works great, maybe better than before. It really does seem a little more sensitive. I wonder how long it was barely hanging on. I am going to test run it tomorrow am and see how it does.

I agree with seeker.

Care must be taken to avoid over heating the board at those points so a small iron for delicate work is in order.

I'm no whiz-bang at this kind of work, but I know what makes sense.

Caution will win the day!

CJ

glad you got it working.....now go and have fun..find lots of targets...
