John R. Sinnock Coins - Silver...

Howdy--

In my 30+ years of detecting, I have found that the most frequently dug silver coins are those designed by John R. Sinnock. Here are 3 examples from my most recent hunt.

I've been having pretty good luck detecting in an older neighborhood and when Kenneth and I went out for a hunt we naturally went to that neighborhood. In the past I had noticed a corner house that was very overgrown with weeds (waist high). The house was abandoned because of a fire. The house has a large front yard and a larger backyard. I said to Kenneth " I KNOW that there is silver there. Lets swing the coils in any clean areas that we can." That's what we did. There weren't too many clean areas but where we were able to swing the coils we were successful. Kenneth dug a beautiful 14K gold man's ring with a diamond and I dug a small silver ring. We both dug some clad and memorials and I dug 3 of John R. Sinnock designed silver coins. The dimes are 1950-S and 1962-D, the Half is 1954-D.The plan is to return to that location this coming Monday with a mower. There should be many more good finds there as we have only searched 15-20% of the yard. Best of luck and...

Very nice finds and I wished I was joining you on the next hunt!!!!!

Congrats !

Those are some great finds! Love the Franklin half! Thanks for the info on designer John Sinnock.

Nice Like the summer homes I hit in the winter months! Loaded!

good finds, Blind Squirrel!! Save some for me.

I was wondering about permission too? I know neglected or burned out properties just sit there. I often wounder at what point do you just hit them and obvioudly leave no trace?
I think the answer is always get permission, but what if there is no access to owner or info!

I know a house that is neglected and the owner is behind over 5 years in taxes. The county has been cutting the grass for years just because its in a very public open area.
I figure since my taxes pay for the grass cutting, and the owner isn't obviously going to engage, it's fair game???

Any thoughts or comments?
This is a one off, but I'm sure some of you have simular cases. Like to hear about them.
Maybe this should be a new thread discussion??? If so, MOD, please move it.

Thx and HH!

Thanks Goldstrike! I have been lucky to dig some silver lately but you are in California where the GOLD is! I know THAT for sure. I dredged a bit of that yellow stuff in the1980's on the North Fork of the Middle Fork of the American River. Best of luck and...

Mkus, That street and that general neighborhood has put quite a bit of silver in my goodie bag. As you know, it is fun to hunt un-hunted older home sites. Best of luck and...

Howdy mcb613--

When I encounter an abandoned, vacant house, I'll look it over closely, knock on the door, if no answer, I'll check with neighbors to determine the status of the property. Then I act accordingly with respect for the property.

That neglected house that you referred to, if it is a site that you believe could be productive, consider knocking on the door and asking permission to detect. I would do it quickly before another detectorist beats you to it! By the way, what is the address??? hahah

Mcb613, I think that is a good idea - to start a thread on the "Metal Detecting" forum. I'm sure that you will get a lot of input. Best of luck and ...

Howdy--

We went back to the overgrown, fire damaged house and found it to have been mowed! I was spared the task of mowing it in 100+ heat. We hunted for over 3 hours and had little luck - Kenneth and I each only dug 1 wheat cent and a few dollars in clad. We will keep an eye on it though - it is scheduled for demolition. Best of luck and...

Congrats on some very nice finds!

That's awesome Blind Squirrel!!! I've mowed several permissions. Shorter the better!!! Watch out for old tires though, they don't sound very good going under the mower! Experience!
