Hi Scott. Well, while hunting in true all metal mode, the little cursor always plunks itself below the probable target icon. When it reads under the coin area, that's a hint that there could be a coin there. I just hit the discriminate button, which I have already set to zero discriminate to verify if in fact the target might be a coin. Sometimes it was just a bottle cap, but sometimes there is in fact a coin hiding down there. I also use the imaging, which gives me a pretty good idea of the size of the object, in the first 6 inches. Below that depth, the accuracy just drops off. So, I usually dig anyway.
What I noticed using the 2500 in previously hunted spots was that the machine easily locks on to coins that I have previously missed. The true all metal mode gets better depth, and this is verified in my test garden at home. It can easily give me another 3 inches on some of my targets. So, using the 2500 seems to give me an advantage over my other Garretts, in that it gets better depth in true all metal mode, and really locks on to targets. After getting a questionable target, you just switch over to discriminate mode to verify the target, or just dig it anyway. Now I have the large 12 1/2" imaging coil, and I haven't even used it yet. I think that I will use it after I have re hunted my previous locations with the stock 9 1/2" on the 2500.
There are many other bells and whistles on this machine, and some just don't give you any advantage over the other Garretts available. Treasure Talk sure is a conversation piece when I take it to work. But that true all metal mode is really working out well for me. I wish I could join you on some of your hunts. Having an old baseball diamond, golf course, store and a house all still in the family is really cool. I suspect you will become a legend to the family several generations down the road.
If you have any other questions, or if I missed something, just fire away......Hopefully Bill can add to this discussion, as he did the field test on this machine. It really is an under-rated machine as far as I can see.
